Central League Schedule

| October 13, 2020

Football is back! There will be Friday night lights in 2020 for all twelve members in the Central League. Every team has been approved by their school board to start practicing and get ready for a shortened season.

The league announced that all teams will not be eligible for the District One postseason or the PIAA tournament. However, there will still be a season and a Central League champion will be crowned.

There will be a round-robin style tournament that will determine a league champion. This round-robin will consist of two divisions. The first division will have all of the class 5A teams. The class 5A teams include Harriton, Marple Newtown, Penncrest, Radnor, and Springfield. The other division will include all of the class 6A teams. The class 6A teams consist of Conestoga, Garnet Valley, Haverford, Lower Merion, Ridley, and Upper Darby.

Every team will play each opponent from their classification one time. Therefore, all of the 5A teams will play each other. The same goes for all the 6A teams. The only exception is in week five, where Harriton travels to Ridley and Lower Merion hosts Radnor. That leaves members of the Central League with a five game regular season schedule. Following the regular season schedule, there will be a crossover game. Each school will play the same-place team from the opposite division. There will be a Central League championship game at a time and place to be determined on either November 27th or November 28th.

Garnet Valley returns as the two-time defending league champion. Since entering the league in 2008, the Jaguars have either won or shared the title six times. The Jaguars have run the table in the league for two straight years, winning 19 in a row during that stretch. Garnet Valley has not lost a Central League matchup since they dropped a 14-7 game to Springfield on October 20th, 2017.
