After a day of rain came the sun as well as 45 degree weather and strong winds. This translates only to one thing: Football weather. This game was the big one, the battle of the undefeated’s to see who would become the front runner to win the United 10. Both Penn Wood and Chester were 3-0 and had this game circled on their calendars since the season began. Today, Chester came into Penn Wood ready and showed it on the field with their mighty offense and defense. They set the tone for the game early and never looked back as they would go on to win 30-0 in a commanding win that a lot of people did not see coming. Lets go into a recap of the game from each team’s perspective . . .

Penn Wood after scoring 14 points in the first half against Chichester was not able to put up a single point against that powerful Clippers defense. The offensive line had a rough day. Chester was able to bottle up star running back Jordin Jones for the majority of the day after breaking out against Chichester. Penn Wood head coach Ato Troop acknowledged this after the game saying “Chester gave us a lot of problems up front.” Also he said that “Chester played really well and they’re a good team.” The one positive on offense was the increased passing yards from last week to this week for Jason Kempf. He was accurate for the most part and did not make a lot of mistakes.

On defense for the Patriots, the story was very similar. Penn Wood had a lot of trouble getting through the Chester offensive line as well as stopping Anton Sterling through out the game. With that being said, there were some positives on defense as well. At times, the Penn Wood defenders were able to get some sacks and yards for loss. Penn Wood is a very good football team that faced a very tough Clipper team as Coach Troop has a lot confidence going into next week as he stated “We will get corrected what we need corrected and we cam out here healthy which is the most important thing.”

On the Chester Side of the ball, the Clipper players and coaches was extremely happy with how the game went. This was the first time that Chester has beaten Penn Wood since 2014 and did so in very good fashion. Chester head coach LaDontay Bell said the keys to winning today’s game were “To say humble and stay disciplined, don’t talk, and show us what you can do and they responded today.” On offense, Anton Sterling was the star of the show getting a lot of yardage after contact as well as picking up a touchdown. Also, Isaiah Freeman was vital at QB today as he ran for one touchdown and passed for another on a trick play to Jason Stone.

On the defensive side of the ball, the story was once again very similar for Chester. Chester was able to shut out a very powerful Patriot offense. As a lot of coaches say “It all starts up front.” That was the story of the Clipper defense today. Their defensive line was able to stop the vast majority of plays from getting off the ground today. The Clippers were able to create a lot of turnovers and sacks because the defensive line prevented plays from developing. The sack at the end of the game by LaFennis Mays summed up the day for that fantastic Clippers defense. Also, the Clippers were able to generated turnovers not just on the ground but in the air as well with an interception by Colin Ferrell.

Chester will move on to 4-0 and will play Academy Park at home on April 10th at 1:00 PM, which will be a week from this Saturday. Academy Park is 3-1 and is also in contention to win the United 10 crown. Coach Bell for Chester wants to stay vigilant about winning the conference as he said “we have momentum, one game at a time and one week at a time.” Once again, he relayed that himself, the coaches, and the players have to stay humble through out the rest of this season. For Penn Wood, they drop to 3-1 and will be playing 2-2 Cheltenham on April 9th at 7:00 PM, which is a week from Friday. Penn Wood is a resilient and tough team as shown by their record as Coach Troop for Penn Wood said “Our kids never give up.” This is shaping up to be a fun set of games going down the stretch of the Spring Football 2021 season.
