DOWNINGTOWN: All the makings were there for the Bishop Shanahan Eagles to have successful season, a senior laden team, stellar defense, and explosive playmaker at the Quarterback. All three of those were on display Friday at Jack Mancini Field and the result was the Eagles routing the visiting Pottsgrove Falcons 40-6 to earn their second District 1 4A Championship in three seasons. “It’s our seniors they are the ones who did it really, they are a great group.” Eagles Coach Paul Meyers said adding that most of his seniors played has sophomores on the previous team that won the district championship.

On Friday the Eagles held the Falcons ground and pound style offense to a mere 33 yards rushing and a total of 142 yards offense. One of the leaders was the monstrous senior two-way lineman Dylan Jones the towering 6’3 265 physically imposing was a force to be reckon with all night getting in on numerous stops either at or beyond the line of scrimmage and along with Charles Adams DaKendrick Daniels and Liam Blakely made a habit of being in the face of Falcons QB Ryan Sisko all night. “We play has a team, we play has a unit, when we play has a team, we are dangerous.” Jones said of the Eagles defense.

One person who appreciates his defenses effort is Quarterback Cooper Jordan who said of his defense “I love our defense they really energize our offense, put us in great situations great field positions.”

As far has the explosive playmaker at the quarterback position Jordan was just that throwing for 305 yards on 18-23 and 3 touchdown passes to go along with 39 yards rushing. “He’s an athlete, He make us has coaches look good, he’s football smart. Meyers said of his signal caller. Jones added “It’s great I mess up, he steps up and makes plays he’s just great, I love playing with him.” Jordan

As a team the Eagles racked up 426 total yards of offensive.

After their opening drive stalled at the Falcons 18 yard-line on a turnover on downs the Eagles found paydirt on their second drive of the game when Jordan connected with Trevor Barbadora for an 18-yard touchdown.

Colin McGrory would set up the next Eagles touchdown with his interception of Sisko. Seven plays later Simmi Whitehill powered his way in from a yard out and the Eagles were up 14-0

Evan Kapczynski extended the Eagles lead to 21-0 when he hauled in a Jordan pass and raced 62 yards to the endzone.
Jordan would find Nicholas Romano with under a minute left in the first half from 7 yards out to give the Eagles a 27-0 lead at intermission.

The Falcons took the second half kickoff and drove 78 yards on nine plays before Sisko connected with Riley Delp for a 12-yard touchdown.

But the Eagles would respond with a 11 play 87-yard drive that took over four minutes off the clock before Brandon Choi bulldozed his way in from a yard out to make it 34-6. Jordan would cap the scoring with his two-yard keeper in the fourth quarter.

With the win the Eagles (9-3) will take on either Bonner-Prendie or John Bartram who do battle Saturday for the District 12 championship. Details of the game are to be determined.
