Today was a cold night at Garnet Valley, with temperatures in the low 40s. This also marks the second time that these two teams have met. The first one resulted in a 55-14 win for Garnet Valley. This game would be much of the same as Garnet Valley won by a final score of 42-0. Lets go into a recap of each teams’ night . . .

Haverford came into this game as the 16 seed after adding a game against Academy at Palumbo to tie them enough points for that spot. On offense, they were able to get into Garnet Valley territory, but could never cash in. Their drives would often stall between the 30 and 40 yard lines in Jaguar territory and would result in a turnover on downs. The Fords also committed a multitude of holding and false start penalties early on in the game, which halted their momentum. One positive thing on the night for them on offense was the great play of Ben Fleming who had 84 receiving yards on the night. Another was that quarterback Tommy Wright threw for 174 yards. On defense, they did not have much success either. They were not able to stop Garnet Valley’s rushing attack as Shane Reynolds, Ryan Saunders, and Sean Gallagher gained a lot of yardage through out the night. However, they were able to cause three turnovers, two fumbles and an interception. This was the first time this year that any team has intercepted a Max Busenkell pass.

Garnet Valley once again took care of business and were able to put Haverford at arms distance early on in the game. Garnet Valley for the second week in a row went with a run heavy offense and it worked to perfection. Shane Reynolds had another 100 yard rushing day with 112 yards on the ground as well as three touchdowns, another solid day for the Navy commit. Then, Sean Gallagher was able to pick up a touchdown as well with a high number of receiving yards and rushing yards. Lastly, Max Busenkell did most of his damage on the ground tonight rather than through the air. This was heavily due to their offensive line who was creative holes for Garnet Valley running backs all day. On defense, they arguable had one of their best nights of the year. They had their second shut out of the year and holding Haverford to just 23 rushing yards in the game. Ryan Saunders was able to score but this time on defense as he returned an interception for a touchdown in the 1st quarter. Lastly, that stat sheet may not show it, but Garnet Valley had Wright on the move for most of the game as there were defensive linemen in the backfield on almost every defensive snap for the Jaguars.

Haverford’s season will end with their annual Thanksgiving Day game against Upper Darby. That will be at Haverford at 10:45 AM. They were able to recover nicely after a rough start to their season. Garnet Valley will move on to the second round of District One Playoffs and play CB West at home at 7:00 PM next Friday as they beat Pennridge earlier today. The playoff season is officially upon us.
