Concord, PA: It was another night of dominance for the Jaguar offense, putting up thirty-five unanswered points in the first half. Garnet Valley started strong when Quarterback Matt Mesaros connected with Jake McDowell for a fifty-yard touchdown pass. The senior tight end dragged a Radnor defender 15 yards on his way into the endzone. With the win against Radnor, 49 to 0, Garnet Valley sits at 3-0 on the season. “We had a big challenge this week to live up to our standards of Garnet Valley football, and I think the guys responded really well this week,” said Jag head coach Eric VanWyk.

The Garnet Valley run game was back in full force tonight with five rushing touchdowns. The first came when running back Ronnie Leraris broke off a twenty-seven-yard option run for the Jags’ second score of the night. Next was senior Jack Westburg running in a thirty-four-yard touchdown late in the first quarter. Joseph Checchio added to the total when he ran one in from the one-yard line to make the score 27-0 in the second quarter. Garnet Valley’s final two rushing scores came in the second half when Luke Mingioni took one in for fifty yards, and Dean Koehler carried one in for twenty-seven yards.

For the final score in the first half, Mesaros connected with senior tight end Drew Van Horn for his second passing touchdown of the night. Van Horn, who was wide open down the seam, caught the twenty-nine-yard pass and walked in untouched. “It all comes down to his preparation; from Monday to Thursday, he locks in on every opportunity he has. He’s been special this year, and I look forward to seeing him continue,” Head Coach Eric VanWyk on Mesaros.

The defense shut down the Radnor offense all night. Radnor could only get one drive across the fifty-yard line in the first half. When talking about his defense, VanWyk said, “When you are able to do that, it means a lot of people have to step up in different situations. From sophomores to seniors, everyone stepped up.”

Next week Garnet Valley will take on the Ridley Green Raiders at home. “We’re excited for the opportunity to play a great team,” stated VanWyk. Ridley comes in off a 35 to 13 win over Plymouth Whitemarsh. With both teams sitting at 2-0 in the Central League, the winner could see themselves sitting atop the Central League.
