HC Adam Beach & his staff speak to their team after their victory over HH.

Football is back baby, and boy did it start out with a bang for the host team. The Upper Moreland Golden Bears (1-0) (0-0) mauled cross town rival the Hatboro Horsham Hatters (0-1) (0-0) 41-0 on Friday night.  The Golden Bears were dominate up front on both sides of the ball and controlled the line of scrimmage the whole game.  Upper Moreland started their 2022 campaign off slow but after their first two possessions which resulted in 2 fumbles, they never looked back.  Even with the 2 fumbles Hatboro could not capitalize. The turning point in the game came with only a few minutes to spare left in the first quarter. Upper Moreland senior QB No. 14 Shawn Herbert hit senior WR Paul Meyers No. 25 on a screen pass for a 28-yard touchdown.

The point after was good to make it 7-0.  The Hatters would sputter again on offense and even though just the first quarter, my hit of the game came as the quarter closed out. Senior LB Hassan Johnson No. 4 leveled Hatboro junior FB Jaxson Bumpus No. 25 for a loss on the play which got my blood pumping & elated the crowd as they erupted into cheers.

In the second quarter with 9:44 left in the half, this time on offense UM’s senior RB Hassan Johnson No. 4 trucked his way through two Hatboro defenders from 10 yards out. After the PAT was good the Bears lead would move to 14-0.

4 minutes later a botched punt from the Hatters set up UM again, this time senior RB Stephen Broderick No. 5 scampered in from 8 yards out.

A mishandled PAT made the score 20-0. The Hatters would take the next few minutes of the Half and muster just 2 first downs before being shut down again by the Bears stout defense. UM went into the half up 3 scores.

With 8:29 left in the third quarter UM Senior RB No. 5 Stephen Broderick found the endzone again, this time on an end around where he outran the defense for a 29-yard score. The point after was good to make the score 27-0.

The UM defense would again hold Hatboro. The Hatters special teams had a hard time holding onto the ball and set up the Bears from the 5-yard line. With about 3:25 left in the third quarter. UM senior RB Stephen Broderick would find the endzone for a third and final time. He hit the hole, couldn’t find anything, reversed course, and jetted for the pylon.  The point after was good and the Bears lead extended to 34-0.

The fourth quarter would see UM’s and HH’s second and third teams get some action and experience. The UM defense would again hold Hatboro to a few first downs but nothing more. With only 2:43 left in the game, the Bears would notch one more score. This time freshman RB Elijah Davis No. 15 took the handoff from sophomore QB Alex Foley No. 11 for a 25-yard touchdown.

The PAT was good, and the Bears would go up 41-0 where the score would stay.
