PHILADELPHIA, PA – Imhotep Charter staved off a big time upset against Chester 28-24 Saturday afternoon in Mount Airy.
“The main thing was for us to not panic,” “we made our halftime adjustments, took the lead and then took it back but we came back out and showed the heart of a champion and came away with it.”
Tep certainly had some halftime adjustments to make after the events of the first half.
On the Panthers first offensive play of the game Daron Harris of Chester picked off Joey Mcleish to set up the Clippers in prime field position. Jerrell Palmer quickly followed it up with a run in for the touchdown making the score 6-0 Chester early on.

On the ensuing Imhotep drive, it was Harris who picked off Mcleish once again. However, Imhotep would force a fumble and get the ball right back.
Penn State commit Jabree Coleman then ran it in for Tep from 15 yards out to give the Panthers their first lead of the game at 7-6.
Nonetheless, the back and forth continued. As Harris, made yet another play, this time in the form of an 88-yard kick return for a touchdown that gave Chester the 12-7 lead.

Harris followed it up again with another score, this one on the ground – making the score 18-7 Chester.
Just as it seemed Imhotep had a shot to go ahead before the half, Harris once more made the big play. Picking off Mcleish with 17 seconds remaining in the first half to halt the Panthers drive and send Chester into the half with an 18-7 lead.
Wallace-Coleman reintroduced Tep to the game in the second half however, taking charge and helping to move the offense downfield before giving Tep an 18-14 lead on a one yard run.
Not to long after, it was Wallace-Coleman again making it 21-18 with yet another rush in for a touchdown as the third quarter waned to a close.
Though just as it seemed Chester was going down quietly, they came back with a bang as Jalen Harris ran one in from five yards out to make the score 24-21 Clippers with 9:48 to go in the game.

Though, things couldn’t stay civil for long as Wallace-Coleman did his thing once again. This time rushing it in from 67 yards out for the big time score, making the tally 28-24 Imhotep.

Chester would then make their way back on the field and attempt to work a game winning drive, but after a few good plays they were foiled by a Charles Belser pass breakup on fourth and short which forced a turnover on downs.
Tep proceeded to run out the clock with just a few plays and continue their undefeated season and now 18-0 winning streak.
“At halftime it was really just like ‘we got to be better,” said Wallace-Coleman. “I know the level my team can play at and I know we could’ve put up a better fight against this team so we just needed to calm down and we came out and took care of things.”
Imhotep moves to 3-0 on the year and will prepare to face off with Illinois’ East St. Louis next week. While Chester falls to 2-1 as they get ready to pay a visit to John Bartram next weekend.
