Plymouth Whitemarsh Advances to D1-5A Semi-Finals in 30-12 Win

From the start of the Game, you could tell each team wanted this win and would fight to the death for it. One dropped pass switched the momentum from one side of the ball to the other. PW coming in with a very run-first-run-heavy offense was a huge game changer coming into the game. On the Day of the game non-stop rain and heavy winds would have affected any passing attack and it did, Chester Clippers were known for their great passing game and dominant air raid offense. These weather conditions would take a toll on Chester and hugely benefit Plymouth Whitemarsh.

The first quarter came and went by fast with only one score in PW’s first drive. All runs nothing more nothing less. The drive spanned for Eleven Plays in five minutes and forty seconds. #1 Nazye Boggs on a wide receiver pitch gave Plymouth Whitemarsh the first score of the game and the only score of the quarter. The second quarter was more entertaining instead of one score, there were two plus a takeaway. PW struck on defense when Chester looked to have a glimmer of hope. Jalen Harris tossing the ball up to the back left of the field led to the first takeaway by #23 Chase Smith, after the play was over PW gained more yards after a penalty at the end of the game. PW was all over this game, at least until the last minute in the half. Chester seemed like they would pull the game closer after a late 9-yard touchdown from Aqeel Austin that brought the score from 10-0 to 10-6. with 20.4 remaining in the half.

By the time the second half rolled around the attitude in the game went from competitive, to angry. Something happened that made each team more motivated and more aggressive to not only win but put a dent into the opposing team figuratively and literally. Chester started the second half off with the ball and it looked like they were going to take the lead but the weather had other ideas. The ball was dropped and from there on Chester’s offense could not start up after that. After they went four and out PW got the ball right back and went down the field all the way to the one before #34 Tommy Hannon would get one of his three touchdowns on the day. His second touchdown came at the 10:00 minute mark in the fourth off a 6-yard rush up the middle while his and PW’s last score of the game came at 3:43 off an 11-yard handoff up the middle again to put away the game at 30-12.

On the defensive side of PW, they were all over every play, swatting away passes, stuffing runs, and even forcing takeaways. While needed scores Chester started playing more aggressively and that cost them the ball. #4 Aiden O’Brien had been able to pick off the ball at the 1-yard line setting up PW for their next drive which was shut down fast. Chester’s second and last score came late off a strip and recovery in the endzone that helped them cut the score to 23-12 with 6:46 remaining in the game.

On the kickoff of Hannon’s last touchdown, PW would get a lucky bounce and recover the ball at Chester’s 24-yard line to close the door, lock it, and burn the key. This sealed PW’s 30-12 win over Chester and now advance to their first away playoff game of the year to the undefeated Upper Dublin Cardinals at Sparks Field next week. These teams have a history, going back to last year Plymouth Whitemarsh took down Upper Dublin 43-36. Upper Dublin having a combined score of 70-0 in the last two playoff games they have played looks to be not just the team in 5A, but maybe the best team in all of District One. Meanwhile, Chester looks to improve and develop Freshman quarterback Jalen Harris into an even better player after throwing for 2,119 yards and a touchdown/interception ratio of 34/4. The future is bright in the hands of Harris.
