Run, Pass, Trick Plays, Read Options, it did not matter. Plymouth Whitemarsh had one thing on their mind today, Win. With a run-heavy offense with a few passes now and then, PW kept Wissahickon on their toes the entire game. After a 54-7 win in the harsh rain last year, PW proved that the rain didn’t help them, it only slowed them down. This 56-6 would be PW’s biggest win of the year with a 50-point differential.

“We come out with a goal to improve ourselves, we compete against ourselves every week, and something that we want to emphasize and I’m proud of our guys staying focused all week with senior night and everything going on I thought we came out and got after it right from the start,” Head Coach Dan Chang says.

It didn’t take long for PW to come out hot. On their second play of the game #34, Tommy Hannon scored his first of what would be a three-touchdown game. 49-yards right up the middle on a triple option in fifty-one seconds of the game was exactly how PW wanted the game to go. From there it all went right for PW. In the second quarter, Hannon didn’t need much effort to score his second touchdown, a five-yard rush after a long fifty-four-yard keep by his QB #4 Aiden O’Brien. His third needs more effort than his second but less than his first. A nice and easy 29-yard rush after splitting through the O-line sure made his case for the player of the game. After not scoring last week Hannon sure made up for that with his three-touchdown performance.

The rushing game wasn’t everything PW had planned for Wissahickon. PW’s second touchdown of the day was a beauty. QB O’Brien and RB Hannon already showed from the start of this game and going to last year that PW was run-dominant, PW spiced it up a bit with a play action and a 62-yard lob over the middle of the field to #11 Seve Spruill who was found wide open, PW took the lead and pushed it farther to 15-0.

The offense wasn’t the only side that showed up though, the defense and special teams did too. Not only was O’Brien making plays at QB, but he also made them at Saftey. By the 10:30 mark in the second quarter, PW showed that they were not an easy team. O’Brien read the quarterback’s eyes and saw exactly where he wanted to go with the ball. O’Brien then jumped the pass and took the ball back for an easy house call extending PW’s lead to 36-0. Immediately on kickoff, the special team decided to show up and strip the ball right out and bounce on it at the Wiss 29. Only One minute and forty-six seconds into the 2nd quarter PW was dominating all sides of the ball.

The half ended with PW all over the game up 49-0 heading into the lockers. Wissahickon would start the second half off with the ball, on Wissahickons’s first drive they had to punt after a snap went over the head of the Qb. Wiss would stop PW right back then the snap went over the head of the kicker setting Wiss up at the five. Right away Wissahickon’s stand-out player #11 Jaden Mclean took an easy handoff up the middle for the needed 5-yards in getting Wissahickon’s first and only score of the game with 4:11 in the third quarter. The third ended with no other scores, but PW was moving down the field and in scoring position at Wissahickon’s four-yard line.

PW ended the game walking away 7-2 after piling up a season-high 56 points. Moving onto Upper Moreland and playoffs being right around the corner, PW definitely has a lot to work for.

“Just like every other week, they are a very good team, they have a better record than us ranked higher than us, we’re gonna have to do our best to keep up with them. We’re gonna prepare like we always do and try to better each week and get after them” said coach Chang.

“I liked how we protected the football, we were able to control some clock, and we got some guys who can make big plays and I’m glad we got the ball into their hands,”. Coach Chang mentioned how these factors helped out the most and were the biggest reason for the win over Wissahickon.

“1-0 every day get better just improve in everything,” Hannon said when asked how he looks forwards to the playoffs. He followed up by saying that the team needs to improve in everything for the upcoming games and with playoffs coming in fast.  “We’re consistent but we can be a lot better we haven’t even got close to how good we could be”.

Plymouth Whitemarsh stays as one of the top teams in 5A and shows that they are a team not to be messed with. With a heavy rushing offense, they can play in rain, sleet, snow, heat, and keep going without any issues.

Wissahickon finishes off their season traveling to the 4-5 Cheltenham looking for revenge for last year and to bounce back after a crushing loss to PW.
