All the makings were there for the Springfield Delco Cougars and the visiting Harriton Rams to have slow start to their Central League Opener. A short week playing on Thursday evening which was made even shorter when Hurricane Ida forced the cancellation of practice for the Cougars on Wednesday. Fortunately for the Cougars they were able overcome the short week and thanks to four touchdown day by Quarterback Jake Rama and constant pressure on the Rams Quarterback Logan Rothberg the Cougars were able to come away with a 42-6 victory over the Rams.
After driving down on their opening drive before turning the ball over downs the Cougars got on the board on their second drive of the game when Rama connected with Robby Longo for a 27-yard drive. The Rama-Longo duo would strike again on the next Cougars and it was a thing of beauty has Rama hit Longo in strive on a double move for a 74-yard touchdown. Rama third touchdown pass of the game came on the Cougars next play this time he connected with Aidan Kreydt for a 57-yard strike. With 5 seconds left in the half Rama would connect with Zach Tropiano for a 15-yard strike to give the Cougars the 28-0 halftime lead.
The Cougars picked up right where they left off in the second half. One play after Rama lateraled the ball to Longo who raced down the Rams sideline for a gain of 47-yards down to the Rams 1. On the next play Connor Roche plowed his way in to start the running clock. Bryan Minott would add the final touchdown for the Cougars. Kyle Barnes scored the lone Ram touchdown with his 10-yard scramble. The Rams were lead offensive by Rothberg who threw for 57-yards on 7-17 passing.
Next week the Cougars travel to take on their rivals the Ridley Green Raiders while the Rams will battle their crosstown rivals Lower Merion.
