Head coach Chuck Burgy was all smiles last night as his Rams collected their first win of the season and knocked off non-conference opponent Bensalem (1-2) out of the Suburban One Continental Conference 35-0. Tonight’s win was Burgy’s first victory as head coach at Pennridge (1-2). After the game, on his first victory he said, “It’s kind of surreal, been looking forward to it since we started this thing. Everyone got involved, it was great from start to finish. I know we had some hiccups, there’s always stuff to work on but overall, it was a great team effort.” Senior running back and Army WestPoint commit Brennan Fisher said the win felt great and attributed his strong performance to his teammates.  Fisher ended the evening pretty much a few minutes into the third quarter after already amassing 137 yards on the ground & 3 TDs. On his performance he said, “It felt great, we were prepared for it all week. We had a great week of practice for sure. We came into the game with the mindset to step on their throats and I feel that’s what we did here tonight.”

Fisher finally got the party started with 3:44 left in the first quarter when he shook off a defender around the 5-yard line and barreled forward for his first score. The PAT would make it 7-0.

After another unsuccessful drive from Bensalem the Rams would take over from the Owls 44-yard line with only 1:13 left in the first quarter. Fisher took the handoff from Sophomore QB Pat Burdick and scampered 44-yards to the house. The big guys up front paved the way and Fisher evaded two possible tacklers but stayed on his feet and walked in. The PAT was good, and their lead extended to 14-0.

as the first quarter ended Bensalem did manage their longest play of the night when junior RB Rymeer Newkirk took the handoff 28-yards for the first down.

The second quarter saw both teams go three and out and then with 7:49 to go in the half senior running back Tyler Wetzel took the handoff, followed his lead blocker, and went untouched 72-yards to paydirt!  The PAT would make it 21-0.

Both teams would exchange possessions over the next few minutes. Following another turnover on downs by the Owls, Pennridge looked to capitalize from their opponents 28-yard line. With 2:33 to go in the half senior running back Brennan Fisher again took the handoff, followed a host of blockers, and weaved in and out to score his third and finally TD of the night.

The PAT was good again and the lead was extended to 28-0.  Pennridge would hold off another Owl possession and had about 30 seconds left in the half. After a penalty brought the Rams to their opponents 44-yard line sophomore QB Pat Burdick dropped back, found an open senior WR Nate Mossbrook who caught the ball at the 5-yard line and walked in untouched. The PAT was good and the score heading into the half was 35-0.

The third and fourth quarters gave the Rams an opportunity to rest their starters after a barrage of sloppy penalties from both sides. Bensalem couldn’t muster an opportunity the rest of the way as the Rams defense wouldn’t let up and secured the goose egg and a page in history for the new ball coach’s first victory.
