Friday Night Lights never get old, and neither does the rivalry between Henderson and Rustin.  In the past five seasons, not including the ‘Covid Season’, The Rustin Golden Knights have outlasted the Henderson Warriors four out of the five meetings.

Tonight being one of the four, The Golden Knights outscored The Warriors 42-14, in which was dominated by the run game.  In hindsight, the 14-points are the most Henderson has scored against Rustin since their 13-6 win during the 2016-2017 season.

The Golden Knights scored 28 of their 42 points in the first half and a lone Warriors touchdown reception from Eddie Smink to by Sean Himsworth in the final 30 seconds, put a blemish on Rustin’s shutout 1st half.

Rustin could not emphasis enough the importance of solid blocking and an exquisite run game that gave them this victory for the night.

“The running backs did a great job running the ball tonight and the line did an outstanding job opening up holes and staying on their blocks,” said Golden Knights head coach Mike St. Clair.

“This is a crosstown rivalry and I think that they came out really focused and on cue, but just a little bit over excited when they made some good plays,” said St. Clair.

Being led by a strong offensive line and coaching staff, standout RB Dayshawn Jacobs recorded the hat trick for the night.  Jacobs amassed TD’s of 37 yards, 60 yards, and a 93-yard touchdown all on the ground.  Including Jacobs, The Golden Knights had three different rushers end up scoring, Antonio Santangelo for two scores and Jacob Mattei for one.

Jacobs showcased his speed and toughness throughout the game and ended the night with 10 carries for 245 yards and a win for his team.

“We got out to our early game plan and we just kept it, our O-line was playing great and the holes were huge and easy to run through,” said Jacobs”

“It felt great, the stands were full and a bunch of seniors were here it was just an amazing feeling playing out here”

Henderson added a late rushing score in the 4th quarter by Cole Foster and despite the score of the game, Henderson played until the final whistle.

“Honestly, it was not up to our expectations, we flat out have to play better and practice, execute, block, tackle better and we have to be better in every phase of the game from the coaching staff all the way down to the players,” said Henderson head coach John Lunawich.

Henderson moves onto 1-2 on the season and looking to redeem themselves next week against Great Valley which will be their first home conference game of the season.  Whereas, Rustin anticipates keeping their momentum going and improve every asset of their game when they travel to Kennett next Friday.
