Conwell-Egan on Offense to start the scrimmage

Folk’s football is back in Southeastern Pennsylvania! I am really I glad I decided to head down the road to watch District One’s Council Rock South (CRS) of the Suburban One League-Continental as they hosted District Twelve’s Conwell-Egan Catholic (CEC) of the Philadelphia Catholic League-Blue in a scrimmage. Council Rock South finished their 2020 campaign 2-6 while Conwell-Egan finished the year 2-4. I am going to let you know right now, do not let the underwhelming 2020 records of both squads fool you into thinking they are not ready to compete strongly in their respective conferences this year.

Smashmouth is the biggest thing that comes to mind when I think about what I witnessed yesterday at Walt Snyder Stadium in Newtown, Pennsylvania. Both teams were consistently making plays and the hits were aplenty. One of the best defensive plays on the day came from outside Linebacker #42 from CEC. As you can see in the video, he sheds his blocker at the line of scrimmage with ease, swats the ball as he wraps the hips of the ball carrier and #4 from CEC secures the fumble recovery.

It was a great read and overall execution. CEC consistently made plays like this throughout the day. On the other side of the ball CRS own #42 sees motion, follows the QB#14, and brings him down with a huge fourteen-yard sack on the play.

What CRS lacks in experience on this side of the ball was made up for with their discipline and never give up attitudes.

While the defenses stole the show, I wouldn’t say the offenses lacked at all because there were plenty of hard fought first downs and a few plays that picked up huge chunks of yards throughout the day. CRS had a big sixty-yard run before #25 punched it in for six.

The very next play from scrimmage was a seventy-yard QB keeper that resulted in the only other touchdown on the day. Here it is.  QB # 3 fakes the handoff, sees  the open field and keeps it.

Both teams have extremely high hopes for the upcoming season, and I do not blame them. I wish both of you good luck in the future and look forward to following along during the 2021 season.
