Week four is already here this fast. The game between Wissahickon and Simon Gratz seemed fairly even, almost to the point where Wissahickon looked like they may get their first win of the year. Wissahickon’s first drive was back and forth. They started to move the ball and then there were many flags. Some that affected positively and some negatively. The first drive ended on a punt that set up Simon Gratz at the 36, one play later they threw a pick. #1 Ryan Wolf made a contested pick that set Wissahickon up at their 27-yard line.

Three plays later Wissahickon would be set at a 4th and 2 and then came out the punt team, unlucky for Simon Gratz though Wissahickon was not punting. They faked the punt and snapped the ball to #11 Jaden Mclean, who could get the yards needed for the first down and more. They were moving the ball down the field until a false start play pushed them into a passing play on 3rd and 8. On third down quarterback, Julian Perkins overthrew the ball which ultimately made them go for it, and they failed. Simon Gratz was to take over at the 44. Simon Gratz was to go four and out and then later turn the ball back over. Wissahickon ended the quarter running the ball to a fourth down. The second quarter is when things started to get interesting. Wissahickon ended up punting the ball to the 17, and Simon Gratz was back against the wall and struck. Running back #2 Sabmier Martin got a great rush for 61 yards and on top of that a Horse-Collar call to give them an extra 15 on top of that. In one play Simon Gratz went from the 17 to the 7. 2 plays later Simon Gratz struck for the first score of the game. A 5-yard rushing touchdown by #26 Tray Parson to give them a 7-0 lead with 10:50 in the half.

Wissahickon went four and out on their first drive after the touchdown and punted right back to Simon Gratz with a penalty. Simon Gratz soon started at the 42 with 8:18 in the half. Simon Gratz kept getting penalties which kept pushing them back forever and forever. They tried to do some trickery which lead to an interception by #11 Jaden Mclean and set Wissahickon up at the 29 with 5:59 in the half. Two plays later Wissahickon did a double reverse sweep for a 26-yard rushing touchdown by #2 Gavin Myers with 4:44 in the half. They tried to go for a two-point conversion but failed to leave the score at 7-6.

Simon Gratz turned on the jets after the kickoff, they started flying down the field. They were moving down the field and suddenly came to a halt on a 4th down, which they got bailed out of on an offside. Soon later Simon Gratz would strike again, #2 Sabmier had another nice run and Horse-Collar call. A few plays later, #26 Tray Parsons was to get his 2nd touchdown of the game off a 1-yard rushing touchdown with 25 seconds left in the half. They missed the Extra Point causing the score to be 13-6 at the half. Simon Gratz would also be getting the ball to start the next half already up.

The second half was all but pleasing for Wissahickon. Simon Gratz came out of the half with not only the ball but momentum. Simon Gratz started the half at the 41-yard line. Simon Gratz took eight plays in the quarter before they had a chance to score. on the ninth play of the drive, they struck yet again. A 16-yard passing touchdown came off a beautiful scramble that kept everyone moving around. The score came from #24 Rayshawn Scott. With 8:59 left in the third quarter, Simon Gratz lead Wissahickon 20-6.

Things didn’t seem to get any better for Wissahickon in the game. On the plus side though they didn’t let Simon Gratz score again in the third. As a matter of fact, neither team did. The third quarter ended 20-6 Simon Gratz is up ahead. The fourth quarter still was not any easier for Wissahickon. The quarter started with a beautiful reverse field rushing touchdown by #2 Sabmier but the play was called back with a flag. That did not matter though because Simon Gratz still ended the drive with a touchdown. Their Quarterback #1 Samire Locks kept the ball for a 15-yard rushing touchdown with a missed PAT to extend the lead to 26-6 in the fourth with 6:53 left in the game.

One play into Wissahickon’s drive, they fumbled after a stripped ball on the rush. The fumble was recovered on spot by #44 Robert Harp at the 24 with 6:32 in the game.

By now some of Simon Gratz’s backups were in. Simon Gratz needed two plays before they struck yet again for their final score of the game. A 23-yard rushing touchdown by #24 Rayshawn Scott too not only push the lead to 33-6 with 5:23 in the game, but to get him his third touchdown of the day.

It seemed that Wissahickon could not adjust to Simon Gratz’s rushing game at all. Neither team scored or turned the ball over after that final score. Wissahickon sadly would fall to their fourth straight loss while Simon Gratz would advance to their third win. After the game, I talked to Running Back Sabmier Martin. He surely didn’t seem at all upset that he could not score. If anything he seemed joyful. he mentioned how it makes him and everyone feel better when his other teammates get to score. He also mentioned how this win puts them in a greater position for the playoffs and better for next week. His biggest takeaway was they have to tighten up and stop letting all the loss of yards affect the team. Simon Gratz (3-1) will play Northeast high school next week while Wissahickon (0-4) stays at home to play Upper Dublin (4-0) in the battle of Bethlehem pike.
