Fort Washington- Upper Dublin (9-0) (5-0) was tasked with stopping Souderton’s (7-2) (4-1) potent offensive attack which heading into Friday night was averaging almost 30 points per game. Last night they did more than just stop it, they bottled em’ up. The Cardinals held the Indians to 82 total yards of offense, 65 rushing & 17 through the air. On the other side of the ball the Cardinal’s offense exploded for over 400+ yards and 34 points.  Senior running back No. 7 Nyfise McIntyre had a career night as he finished with 29 carries for 225 yards & 1 TD. Senior QB No. 9 Colin O’Sullivan completed 77% of his passes for 212 yards & 3 TDs.

Head coach Bret Stover was proud of his team and their effort. On McIntyre’s career evening, He said, “He ran the ball really well tonight, patient, proud of him. I know he turned one over early & he’ll tell you it should have never happened but I’m proud of how he came back, and we just kept giving it to him. We didn’t bury him on the bench, you know their kids and kids make mistakes, he came out and he ran like he owed something tonight. I’m just very proud of him.”

There is one game remaining in the regular season & with the victory over Souderton tonight, Upper Dublin has now secured at least a share of the Suburban One League-Continental Conference title. Stover spoke about it after the game and said, “It just feels good, it’s been awhile for us to grab one of those because Quakertown has been seriously good & Souderton has been seriously good.  It’s kind of our goal every year. Check 1, check 2, check 3. We got 2 more out there that we got to get. Quakertown is going to come down here and they are going to be ready. They took it to us pretty bad last year so we are going to see what we can do.”   I guess we will find out next week when Upper Dublin faces off against non-other than Quakertown (5-4) (4-1) who came away victorious last year, 31-0.

Souderton got the scoring started after taking a few minutes off the clock in the first quarter with 8:19 to go. Senior Kicker No. 13 Ty Quintois hit a 48-yard field goal to give the 3-0 early lead.

Upper Dublin then took over and was charging down the field when Senior QB No. 9 Colin O’Sullivan fumbled the ball to stall the drive. Souderton would take over again and push for a few plays before Senior QB No. 11 Jared Zimmerman found himself scrambling for his life and fumbled the ball into the arms of Senior No. 8 Griffin Pensabene.

The Cardinals then took over and marched all the way down to the 2-yard line on the legs of SR running back No. 7 Nyfise McIntyre. McIntyre would get stripped however at the 2-yard line. After a big run by JR FB No. 33 Logan Wrubel the quarter ended with the Indians up 3-0. The Indians started the second quarter at the 12-yard line of Upper Dublin. A few plays later with 9:24 to go in the half, Senior DT No. 56 Kyree Butler stripped the running back and Senior DB No. 6 Starling Reaves picked it up and went 14-yards for the score. The PAT was good and Upper Dublin took the lead 7-3.

Souderton couldn’t make anything happen after that point and the Cardinals once again took over with some steam. Facing a barrage of defenders in his face Senior QB No. 9 Colin O’Sullivan saw two players as he was being hit and heaved it in the air. JR wide receiver No. 4 Chris Kohlbrenner caught the pass and raced 47-yards to the house.

The PAT was blocked by Souderton, but the lead grew to 13-3 with 7:23 to go in the half. Souderton could not muster much and turned the ball over on downs again.  There was 2:55 left to go in the half when SR running back No. 7 Nyfise McIntyre followed his blockers into the endzone from 10-yards out.

The PAT was successful, and the lead was extended to 20-7 which is how we would head into the half.

The third quarter would open up with a haymaker of runs by the Cards and Nyfise McIntyre, but they were unsuccessful to put any points on the board until there was almost 2-minutes left on the clock. With 2:04 remaining, QB Colin O’Sullivan found Senior TE No. 13 Nyles Bunn-McNeill from 6-yards out for his second passing TD of the night.

The PAT was good, and their lead was now 27-3.  The third quarter would end with the score the same. Only 14 seconds into the fourth quarter UD’s JR Linebacker/end Shyne Roberts busted through the line sacking Zimmerman for an 8-yard loss forcing them to punt again.

Four minutes later with 8:01 to go QB Colin O’Sullivan found SR wide receiver No. 2 DJ Cerisier for a 42-yard TD.

The PAT was good, and the lead extended to 34-3. The Cardinals defense again stopped anything and everything that the Indians threw at them.  With only a few minutes left the Cardinals would take over and run the clock out.  Upper Dublin was clearly the better team this evening. The Cardinals will now face Quakertown at home next Friday for either a share or outright conference title and Souderton is on the road at Bensalem.

  • with his 212 yards & 3 TDs SR QB Colin O’Sullivan has 1,766 passing yards 21 TDs & 2 INTs
