District 1 Weekly Round Week of Sept 17

Hello and welcome to Will’s Southeastern PA Weekly Round up. Each and every week throughout the season I will be providing notes and observations from District 1 and 12 if you have anything that you believe to be noteworthy please feel to email at umpirewillie100@gmail or on twitter @WilliePAFN

Entering last Saturday’s non-league contest against Bartram the Chester Clippers went the first three weeks of the season without giving up a single point. That streak continued all the way to the fourth quarter when they gave up touchdowns to the Braves. The Clippers under the direction of coordinator LaFennis Terry have been led by Linebackers Jakai Boegerty (team leader in tackles), Asim Muhammad trails Boegerty by one tackle but leads the team in sacks Daron “Scrap” Miller leads the team with 4 interceptions. Their secondary has been led by twins Malachi and Malik Langley both have two interceptions a piece along with Tahmir Reese, Freshman Starlin Reaves also has been solid for the Clippers. Up front Devin Bobo along with Jaheim Golden Shamon Isaiah Hall and Cyheem Brown have been terrors for opposing offensive lines. They face a big test this week with a road trip to Roman Catholic.

In just his second year at helm of Kennett head coach Lance Frazier has managed to turn the Blue Demons from a team that could routinely be found at the bottom of the Chest-Mont league standings to one that in contention for the Chest Mont American Division. Already this season the Blue Demons have knocked perennial league powers West Chester Rustin and then last Friday took down their cross-town rivals Unionville in the Battle of Route 82 marking their first victory over their rivals since they brought back football in 2005.

This season Cardinal O’Hara is celebrating 55 years of football. The celebration kicks-off this Friday night with the 15-year reunion for the 2014 PCL Championship team. Members of the team that went 11-1 and defeated St Joseph Prep 14-13 in the championship game will be introduced at halftime of the Lions game with Archbishop Carroll. On October 26 the 1979 Championship team will be entering the schools Hall of Fame.

Roman Catholic will honor the 20th anniversary of their 1999 PCL Championship team on Saturday September 28 when the Cahillites host Archbishop Wood kick off is slated for 7 pm at A.A Garthwaite stadium which is located at E 11th Ave and Harry St. in Conshohocken .

Thanks to two touchdown passes from Nate Decenzi the Chichester Eagles were able to give first year head coach Bob Bice his first career win defeating Phoenixville 13-6.

Friday night Unionville is hosting its Military and First Responders Night when the Indians host Downingtown East. Free Admission and complimentary hotdog, band fries and water will be giving to all active and retired military and first responders.

Congratulations are in order to Coatesville QB Ricky Ortega who despite battling an injury became the Chest Mont League All time leading passer. With 74 yards passing against West Chester Henderson Ortega passed former Downingtown East QB Pat Devlin.

After arguably the toughest three game stretch that any team in Pennsylvania Football history face the St. Joseph Prep Hawks are enjoying much deserve bye week. The Hawks are currently sitting at 1-2 with their lone victory being over DC Powerhouse St John’s and their two are losses are to National Powers Marietta(GA) and IMG academy. The schedule doesn’t get any easier has next Saturday night the Hawks face rival LaSalle.

Over in the PAC, OJR looks like it might bet the team to beat. They struggled this past week but lead the Liberty Division at 4-0. They’ll face a tougher than 2-2 Perkiomen Valley this week.

Over in the Frontier, Pope John Paul QB Kamal Gray, who just added an offer from Valparaiso this week, tore up the field in the first game of the year. Gray threw for over 400 yards and 6 tds in a tough loss to Roman. Gray is currently third in the PAC in passing. The Golden Panthers sit at 3-1 and might have the most potent offense in the league.

Leading the PAC for quarterbacks is Spring-Ford signal caller Ryan Engro who is averaging nearly 310 yards per game.

Pottstown is sitting at 3-1 heading into the weekend and is resting their laurels on a freshman QB. Joneil Oister is a dual threat and can run the ball.  They face a Pottsgrove team that’s probably a lot better than their record considering the teams they’ve played so far. Christ the King and Academy Park are strong teams that put up some big numbers on the defending champs but teams best not look past the Falcons.

Norristown has the light! Or lights.  The 0-4 Eagles have lights at their field for the first time in over 10 years. Bet it felt good to host Friday Night Lights again!

PAC league play starts this week.  Pottstown and Pottsgrove continue their big rivalry game, and OJR takes on PV.

Let’s give a big shout out to Strath Haven. It’s been a while but the Panthers are off to a 4-0 start!

Undefeated teams in D1 going into week 5:

Academy Park, CBW, Chester, Downingtown East and West, Kennett, OJR, Plymouth-Whitemarsh, Souderton, Strath Haven, Jenkintown, Springfield Montco and Upper Dublin

Undefeated Teams in D12:

Franklin, La Salle, Neumann, Wood and Kensington.
