Wissahickon, Upper Dublin, and Abington Midseason Review

Wow, We’re already here. Halfway point of the football season. Many Teams have solidified their spots as top teams in the Leauge while many have shown their season ended the day it started. The three teams that will be reviewed today will be one struggling team, one that hasn’t played to their best, and one that shows they can take on anyone and win.

Wissahickon. Wissahickon is a struggling program. Their offense has shown that they can’t produce anything big. Or if they do they mess up almost immediately. Their defense has struggled and shown that they sometimes can’t hang with a JV offense. The run game has still struggled and doesn’t seem to get better. They are still unable to get a rushing touchdown on the year. The passing game struggles with Quarterback Julian Perkins having more than double the interceptions than touchdowns were thrown. Their special team struggles also. On most kickoffs, it seems that they have issues catching the ball and returning it. After a week 2 injury to their starting kicker, their kicking game has been thrown away. They haven’t attempted a PAT or a field goal since week 2. In all honesty, they haven’t needed to anyway. They average only 5.4 points a game being outscored 161-27 in 5 games. Teams averaged 32.2 points a game while playing against them. This means that the average final score of every game is 32 to 6. With still five more games against teams that have shown they aren’t easy to push around. The final five teams they play have a combined record of 14 wins and 9 losses. Only one team they play remaining has a losing record from William Tennet with 1 and 3, yet they may still be a challenge for Wissahickon. On the bright side for Wissahickon, Swiss Army Knife Jaden Mclean has been a huge help. Performing well on both offense and defense he has shown that he can do it all, but sadly one man doesn’t make an entire team.

Abington's Josh Young quickly making up for lost time with football

Abington. Abington has shown in moments that they can thrive against teams but they still haven’t shown their full potential yet. Standing at a 2 and 3 record with two straight losses and not being able to score a point left in the last two games has shown some concern. Only being outscored 106-102 shows that when Abington shows up to play, they play well. The two teams that Abington has beaten have a combined record of 2-8. All three of their losses have come by a combined record of 9-6. Each team has a winning record of 3-2 which shows that when Abington plays teams that show they know what they’re doing, Abington loses. But when they play teams that struggle in general. They whoop them big time. Abington has a score of 94-20 in the two games that they’ve won but 8-86 in games that they lose. Abington finishes the season off with 3 teams over .500 while 2 teams are under .500. With the past history that Abington has over the first stretch of 5 games, we can predict that Abington will finish the season off with a 4-6 record. If Abington plays to their strong sides and plays safe with the ball on offense then maybe Abington’s luck of winning only 4 games can jump to winning 5 games or more. As they say, any given Sunday (or Friday in this matter).

Upper Dublin.  Upper Dublin has proven to be one of if not the best teams in the District. In the first 5 games of the season, they have won every game that they have played by a combined score of 184 to 55. The only downside of that is every team Upper Dublin has played has a record sub .500. A Combined record of 9-16, Upper Dublin has yet to face a challenge. With their Points for and Points against, even if they were to play a challenging team it would seem that they would be up for the game and make the game entertaining. Upper Dublin’s roster has seemed that they are the best with multiple commits and strong coaching. This Upper Dublin team looks to be one of the best they’ve had in recent years. Sadly though at this point of the year, Upper Dublin’s hardest game of the year has yet to come. They play Souderton a 4-1 team that shows dominance. A week later they play Quakertown, two good teams in a row. Upper Dublin looks to finish off their year with a perfect 10-0 record but only time will tell.
