Q&A

What made you choose football?

I chose to play football because it helps me as a person. The depression and anxiety one goes through in life. This sport can help you get through it and continue strong through life.

What’s your favorite football memory?

My favorite memory was my sophomore year when I got my first sack against Mercer, and what made it even better is I stripped the QB, and it gave me a feeling I don’t think anything else could have given me.

What activities do you enjoy outside of playing football?

I enjoy just hanging out with my teammates and maybe going and throwing the ball around every once in a while and getting closer as a team.

What non-football accomplishment are you most proud of?

I am most proud of the person I have become due to the new coaching staff we got my freshman year. They have helped me through school and just me as a person. The things you can accomplish with a great coaching staff can change a high school student’s life.

Who is your favorite athlete, and why?

My favorite athlete would probably be TJ Watt, the amount of talent this guy endures is incredible, and I love watching the way he plays on the field.

What has been the most difficult part of training during the pandemic, and how did you overcome it?

The most difficult part is telling myself to work when I don’t want too, and while the pandemic has been going on, I’ve been striving more to get stronger faster as a player so that this season can be one to remember.

Do you prefer offense or defense?

I prefer defense because I love the feeling of making that open field tackle or the sack for five yards and listening to the crowd roar after you make a big play.

Who is your biggest role model?

Probably my defensive coach D’albora. He has taught me to be strong on and off the field and strive to be a better person in school and get good grades.

What are your parents most likely to yell from the stands?

My parents are most likely to yell my name (Ryan) from the stands.

What are your team and personal goals for the season?

Through the season, my personal goals are to stay mentally strong, and I believe if you can do that, you can keep your team strong by giving them the motivation to be better as a player.

If you could have dinner with three people, living or dead, who would you choose?

I would choose my grandfather, TJ Watt, and Ray Lewis because the wisdom and motivation from what they could give to someone would be amazing, and I want to learn more about the game and get better.

What hobby do you have that might surprise people?

One of my hobbies is collecting old football cards from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

What’s your favorite sport, other than football, to play or watch?

I like playing and watching basketball whenever I get the chance too.

What is one thing you hope other players can learn from you?

Stay motivated and to know that the first step to getting somewhere is to decide you are not going to stay where you are.

What is your expectation of Northwestern football this season?

My expectations this season is high. I want a region title.

My favorite tv show is probably “Friday night lights.”
