What’s your outlook on the season?

I’m very optimistic about Butler football. The move has generated some excitement among players and parents, and as a result, our numbers are improving, and that was the goal.

Butler enters District 10 this season. Your thoughts?

District 10 has very competitive teams and great football that gets played consistently. We are honored to be included. All the coaches that I have met so far have been extremely kind and gracious.

What can people expect from an offensive perspective?

My coaching mentor Todd Smith has come on to be our offensive coordinator, and it has been a blast reuniting with him as we did almost 20 years ago at Clarion-Limestone. We have been spending a lot of time with the other offensive coaches updating our playbook and making the necessary adjustments for our players. We want to be diverse offensively with multiple formations, motions, plays, tempos, and personnel packages.

What would you like to accomplish defensively?

Bill Elliott returns as defensive coordinator with much help from Craig Stewart and Mitch Shaw. Like the offense, we want to be diverse to adjust to the different kinds of offenses we will be playing against. We want to be able to play fast and cover skill players while also building a sturdy wall to stop the run. We will use multiple fronts and coverages while also being aggressive with different blitzes.

Who are some key players people should keep an eye on this season?

Cooper Baxter-QB/DB; Charlie Kreinbucher-TE/WR; Justin Kabay-RB/LB; Evan Orloski-LB; Colin Look-WR/DB; Cole Slezak-RB/LB; Steven Green-RB/DB; Lance Slater-WR/DB (There might be a few more surprises if we get lucky)
