Coach Larry Wendereusz: “Sam will be a three year starter as a defensive back. Sam is also a returning starter as a wide receiver. Sam is the quiet leader that just leads by example. Sam works hard day in and day out, but does not need to say anything about it. The players follow Sam because they see the positive outcomes that Sam has had through his hard work. Sam will be a leader for this year’s team both on and off the field”.

LET’S GET TO KNOW SAMUEL

Why do you play football?

I love the competition and being a part of the team.

Who is your favorite sports star and WHY?

Probably Larry Bird because he showed how far mental toughness can take an athlete. He came from a very difficult childhood and played most of his career with an injured back.

Do you have a favorite play you remember the most? Explain:

My favorite play was when Shane Thompson returned a kick against Hickory in the playoffs my sophomore year. I gave up a big catch the play before but he saved me with the TD.

What was last years season like for you?

It was very fun because I got to play a lot on both sides of the ball. Although, the ending was very disappointing because we lost to our rivals in the district championship for the second year in a row.

What are your goals for this coming season?

To win our district.

Who is the best player you ever lined up against?

Jaon Philips from Sharon

What stadium, HS/college/pro would you love to visit for a game?

Notre Dame Stadium

What is your favorite Pro team, any sport?

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

What game, yours, college or pro, was your favorite game you watched and why?

My favorite game to be a part took place my freshman year. Our kicker hit a game winning kick, and it was the loudest game I’ve ever been to, even though there were hardly any fans due to COVID.

What would you do to improve the recruiting process?

More in person interactions with recruits.

Describe what the perfect teammate is

The perfect teammate has enough humility to take criticism, but also enough confidence to hold others accountable.

Tell everyone why you think football is good for a community

Football brings people together. In a small town, it gives people something to talk about and have pride in. Football programs are about building a culture that extends outside the locker room and into the community.

Name one thing that you’d love to do in football that may never happen?

I would love to have a game winning pick six as the clock expires.

Who is your mentor, the person you want to be like? WHY?

My mentor is my Dad. He taught me that the lessons you learn in football are applicable to your whole life. He also taught me that knowing what it’s like to work hard differentiates you from your competition.

Preseason Two a Days are:

Essential to building great team chemistry. Two a days might be grueling, but they bring the team even closer together and show what it takes to win.

When you aren’t playing, practicing or training for sports, what is your go to activity and why?

My go to activity is golf. I might be really bad but I love how difficult it is.

What is your favorite football memory to date?

My favorite football memory is when we had a walk off field goal my freshman year. It was the loudest game I’ve ever been a part of, even though there were hardly any fans due to COVID.

What is your favorite play to run?

Cover 2 Jam

Which one? Sheetz or Wawa

Sheetz

What is your favorite vacation destination?

St. Simons Island
