Eisenhower’s Three-Pronged Rushing Attack Leads Knights to Playoff Victory

First, it was the rain, then it was the cold air that blew in behind it. But none of the elements impacted the Eisenhower Knights (7-2) Friday night in Titusville during the first-round District 10 Class A playoff matchup against Saegertown (2-6).

It all started at the line of scrimmage for Eisenhower — the Knight’s physicality leading the way to a 39-0 dismantling of Saegertown.

“We knew that we had to come out and control the line of scrimmage,” Eisenhower coach Jim Penley said. “And I thought we did a pretty good job of that.”

On offense, Eisenhower employed a three-pronged ground attack, which included fullback Tucker Lindell and running backs Benji Bauer and Keegan Eckstrom. In particular, Bauer showed why he is one of the best backs in District 10 Class A with his bruising physicality and yards-after-contact, which notched him 3 touchdowns in the game.

“We knew that we had to come in with everything we had and continue to get better for next week,” Bauer said after the game. “We still have plenty of room to improve, especially with the turnovers.”

The Knight’s dominance wasn’t just about the offense. Eisenhower’s defense was equally as powerful, holding Saegertown to around 100 yards in the game. In fact, the evening’s shutout was the 4th time this season the Knight’s defense held an opponent under 10 points.

“Defensively, I really like where we are at,” coach Penley said. “On defense, we look pretty good. On offense, we still need to work on our timing.”

Eisenhower jumped out to an early lead, scoring touchdowns on its second, third, and fourth possessions, vaulting out to a 19-0 lead before the end of the first quarter. And with the way the defense showed up, it was clear the Knight’s lead would be too much for Saegertown.

The Knights face a playoff matchup next week against Reynolds, who topped Cambridge Springs on Friday night.
