After a struggling 1-1 start to the season, the Wilmington Greyhounds rolled to a 50-8 victory over the Mercer Mustangs. Wilmington wasted no time taking control of this game. They caused a four and out after Mercer went for it on their own 21 yard line. It only took two plays for the Greyhounds to score as Ben Miller scored on a 10 yard run. Mercer responded with a 73-yard run by Carter Addison. On the point after attempt the snap would be bobbled by Nathan Haines. Haines would turn this into a two-point conversion, as he won the race to the pylon to put the Mustangs up 8-7.
Miller would get his second and third touchdowns of the night in the first quarter. He would start out with three carries for 17 yards and three touchdowns. The scoring wouldn’t be finished in the first quarter for Wilmington. Tuff McConahy would find Buddah Book for a 16-yard touchdown to go up 28-8 at the end of the first.
Wilmington would only take a minute to score in the second quarter with a 10 yard run by Ty Milliron. McConahy would find the endzone again through the air when he fired it to Miller. Wilmington’s Tyler Mikulin would get the two point conversion. The Greyhounds’ 43-8 lead would enact the running clock following half time.
Davis Phanco would find the endzone on his first touch of the night with a two-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 50-8. That would end up being the final score as both teams would bleed out the rest of the clock.
Wilmington faces Hickory on the road next week. While Mercer travels north to Saegertown to potentially end their two game skid.
