At Snyder-Stone Stadium in Greenville, the Hickory Hornets pulled away from the General McLane Lancers after a close start, fueled by a timely pick six interception return for touchdown, 44-12.
Tylon Cousins started the scoring with a 63 yard run to put Hickory up, 7-0 in the first quarter. Caiden Holler scores a 6-yard touchdown on a reception over the middle, however the kick attempt is blocked. Keeping Hickory with a slim, 7-6 lead.
Hickory closes out the second quarter with 16 straight points, including a 15 yard TD run by Zander Telesz. Sandwiched around a spectacular Timmy Krivosh interception, Sean Kennedy finds paydirt from one yard out. Giving Hickory a comfortable, 20-6 lead. Lukas Jones caps the first half with a 32 yard field goal with one second left.
In the second half, General McLane scores quickly with a 20 yard touchdown pass to Jared Corwin. Though another conversion attempt fails, as a run up the middle is short. Hickory’s Zander Telesz would crush General McLane’s spirits with an interception on a batted ball and take it to the endzone, giving Hickory a 30-12 lead. In the fourth quarter, Hickory scores twice more, including a Kelvin Morrison 4 yard run with 3:34 left in the game.
Hickory wins, 44-12. Setting up a semifinal matchup with Grove City next Friday night.
