For McDowell Linebacker Bryce Wood it didn’t take long to make his commitment after he was waiting for arrived.  Bryce visited a camp at Youngstown State this summer and new right away he wanted to play there.  On Tuesday night he announced his offer from YSU and on Wednesday morning he announced he’s going to play for Bo Pellini and the Penguins program.

We caught up with Bryce and asked him about his decision:

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the YSU program so quickly?
Bryce: Went to a camp there felt like home already, loved the atmosphere there and it’s just big time football. I get my school paid for and I’m still close to home to see my family.

PFN: Who was your biggest influence there. , who recruited you?
Bryce: Their linebacker coach, Coach Bryan Nardo. He was just hands on active with me, he truly believed in my playing abilities and treated me life family from the bat.

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?
Bryce: Getting someone who embodies hard work. Getting a blue collar type of player who wants to compete right away and help bring a conference championship to YSU.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?
Bryce: There was some days where it was just slow and I questioned my abilities as a player, but I just learned to be patient and trust the process and you’ll end up where you need to be.

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?
Bryce: Criminal justice

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?
Bryce: My dad was excited for any school across the nation who would pay for my schooling. It just worked out perfectly for my family that YSU is so close to home.

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the Penquin program?
Bryce: It’s a historic football place, and bringing this class of ‘22 in we will bring that back. We are on the rise.

PFN: What are you most looking forward to while playing for YSU?
Bryce: Just having fun, winning football games, in a family like atmosphere.

PFN: Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:
Bryce: Wrestling is tougher than football, if you want to become a better athlete, better person, and overall tougher… just wrestle, wrestling got me here. It’s the best thing for any athlete and helps tremendously with the game of football.

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?
Bryce: My father, he got me into the position I’m currently at with his guidance. He instilled hard work into me from a young age, if you want to be the best you have to out work everyone. He did that by leading by example being a drug free world power lifting champ in 1998, that inspired me to be great at something too. He’d push me so hard at the gym at a young age, and with breaking me down it brought out a toughness within me and a mental ability, so no one my age could break me down physically or mentally on the football field or in life.

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?
Bryce: This is the first major decision in my life for my future. I wanted to play big time football and stay close to home. I got my school paid for by a school I talked about playing at years before this day of commitment. It’s a true come true and YSU will fit me perfectly.
