After a hard-fought overtime win over Maplewood last week. Northwestern had no problem Saturday night against Saegertown, routing the Panthers 51-0.

“It’s nice to be able to get out and play the game,” said Northwestern head coach Mark Brooks. “That’s what we’ve wanted since summer with all the Covid-19 junk. Any game Friday or Saturday is a blessing right now.”

Austin Swift led the Wildcats with 113 yards rushing and scored the game’s first two touchdowns on runs of six and thirteen yards.

Preston Runser booted a 31-yard field goal giving Northwestern a 17-0 lead at the break.

The Wildcats defense limited Saegertown to 68 yards of offense in the first half and only yielded 111 yards.

“We’ve emphasized tackling and forcing turnovers this season,” said Brooks. “It was great to see an interception and a shutout on the board tonight. Our kids are coachable and listen to our scheme well.”

Kasey Wade and Ryan Tewell rushed for touchdowns of 13 and eight yards, respectively.

The Wildcats took advantage of a tremendous second-half field position with a blocked punt and interception by Landon Wayne, where he returned it to the Panthers 4-yard line.

Isaac Hawley scored on an 8-yard run that put the mercy clock in at 37-0.

Wayne’s interception set up Ben Campbell’s 2-yard run. Campbell rushed for 86 yards on 11 carries.

“The backs did a great job. They ran through the holes well tonight,” said Brooks. “The credit goes to the offensive line. Every coach is going to say that, but I’m proud of our group up front.”

Jordan Dohanic closed the scoring with an 11-yard run with 4:31 to play.

Northwestern will aim at 3-0 next week when they host Cochranton.

“This feels great right now,” said Brooks. “We goi into a home game against Cochranton, who I’m sure will be much improved, so we’ll be ready for the challenge.”

Saegertown, who broke a 38-game losing streak last week against the Cardinals, will try to bounce back when they travel to Cambridge Springs. The Panthers got 29 yards rushing from Jaden Reagle and 27 yards from Jake Reisinger. Henry Shaffer completed 4-of-11 pass for 43 yards with an interception.
