West Middlesex, PA – The first game for these two Mercer County foes, the West Middlesex Big Reds and Reynolds Raiders, did not disappoint. Reynolds was able to pull away late winning 27-20. The Raiders opened up the scoring late in the first quarter when senior running back Cole Toy took the ball 14 yards to the endzone to go up 7-0. West Middlesex relied on sophomore quarterback Tye Tate to drive down the field with two amazing 20-plus yard runs. Knight would finish off the drive with a one yard push into the endzone to tie it at 7.

On Reynolds’ first drive of the second quarter, the Raiders took the lead again], when Toy scored his second touchdown of the night on a 31 yard run. It took until under a minute left in the half for West Middlesex to respond. The Big Reds used Knight’s arm to find senior Chris Smith in the middle where Smith made a very acrobatic catch to tie the game at 14. The Raiders responded 38 seconds later with a 6 yard touchdown run from Toy on fourth down. That put Reynolds up 21-14 going into halftime

After a scoreless third quarter, West Middlesex called on Tye Tate again. Knight ran and tip-toed the sideline for a 11 yard touchdown run. The Big Reds missed the point after attempt, missing the goal posts to the left, leaving them down 21-20. Reynolds took the ball and chewed the clock down to under two minutes. Then, Cole Toy broke off for his fourth touchdown of the night and what would be the final score of the game. Reynolds made a defensive stop to finish off West Middlesex. The final score was 27-20. West Middlesex plays at Kennedy Catholic next Saturday, and Reynolds has their home opener next Friday against Mercer. West Middlesex and Reynolds will meet again on October 2nd at Reynolds.
