Hermitage – Reynolds flies past Kennedy Catholic.

Reynolds scored three touchdowns in the first 7:47 and never looked back.

It wasn’t the Raiders’ best game of the season, but head coach Jason Mull knows a win is a win.

“It is what it is, and it’s hard to come out and play on a Saturday,” Mull said. “We started well but then had some breakdowns and started arguing amongst ourselves. That is one thing we need to clean up because it’s unacceptable. We will face as much adversity as anyone, and we need to ensure we respond correctly.”

Reynolds scored on their first play from scrimmage as Brayden McCloskey threw a short pass to Hayden McLaughlin, who took it the distance for a 41-yard touchdown.

Jalen Wagner then scored on runs of 17 and 39 yards as the Raiders jumped out to a 20-0 lead with 4:13 to play in the first quarter.

“It’s always good to get a fast start,” said Mull. “But you have to continue with that momentum and not let up. That is exactly what we did in the second quarter. Credit to them, they made some plays and made some things happen. We must do a better job maintaining our dignity and play Reynolds football.”

Wagner rushed for a game-high 175 yards on 15 carries.

Kennedy Catholic was able to score their only touchdown of the game in the second quarter when Jermaine Dunlap caught a 59-yard pass from Damian Harrison.

Harrison led Kennedy Catholic, going 7-for-13 passing for 105 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Simeir Wade rushed for 53 yards on 12 carries while Dunlap caught four passes for 82 yards and the touchdown.

Reynolds responded with a touchdown right before halftime when P.J Winkle caught a 37-yard score from McCloskey.

Brayden McCloskey completed 9-of-15 passes for 169 yards and three touchdowns with an interception.

Reynolds then put the game away with three quick touchdowns to begin the second half.

Wagner scored his third touchdown in the game on a 26-yard run.

McLaughlin then returned an interception 35 yards before McCloskey scored from six yards out.

“That is exactly what we wanted to do in the second half, come out and take back control of the game,” Mull said. “We had a couple of things go our way with a couple of interceptions, and we’re happy we could take advantage of them.”

The Raiders closed the scoring in the fourth quarter on Kevyn Malgieri’s 11-yard touchdown from McCloskey.

Reynolds improves to 5-1 on the season and will host Cochranton next Friday night.

“We need to learn from our mistakes in this game and continue to improve,” Mull concluded. “Week in and week out, I’m talking to these guys about being humble. If we get complacent, we’re in trouble.”

Kennedy Catholic travels to Mercer next Friday.
