West Middlesex uses versatile attack to blowout Mercer

West Middlesex stretches before their game against Mercer

West Middlesex was hitting on all cylinders en route to a 35-7 win over Mercer. Mid-way through the first quarter, senior quarterback Ty Tate pushed in from one yard out to go up 7-0. It wouldn’t be until four seconds into the second quarter when the Big Reds would score again. Sophomore Colby Johnson would run in from eight yards to push the lead to 14-0. Junior running back Ian Smith would also get on the scoring punching it in from a yard out to go up 21-0. Under two minutes in the second, Tate would find senior receiver Alex Rea for a 42 yard pass that would end up at the one-yard line. Rea would finish what he started and score with a one yard rush to put West Middlesex up 28-0 at halftime.

The fireworks for the Big Red would not stop as senior Eddir Lowe would return the opening kick return of the half 75 yards to the endzone. West Middlesex would go up 35-0 and enact the running clock mercy rule. Mercer would break the shutout when senior running back Aidan Bright would get a two yard touchdown run mid way through the fourth quarter. That would make the final score 35-7 in favor of West Middlesex.

Mercer plays at Kennedy Catholic next Saturday. Mercer was able to blow out Kennedy Catholic 46-6 in their last meeting on September 11th. West Middlesex also plays a road game against Reynolds on Friday night. The Big Reds fell to the first place in District Ten, Region One Reynolds Raiders at home 27-20 in week one.
