Coach Says: Cohen Kirby is truly the field general of our team at the quarterback position. He is big, has a strong arm and makes quick decisions. 2 year starter who threw for over 1500 yards last season.

Why do you play football?

I’ve played it since I was a kid and love the sport. Playing as a team, there’s nothing like it. Going to war for your brothers is a special thing not everyone gets to do.

Who is your favorite sports star and WHY?

My favorite sports star is Tom Brady. Tom Brady was the 7th string Qb and proceeded to work his way up to 1st string. When it got hard for him he kept working and didn’t back down. He earned everything that he accomplished and is now the greatest of all time.

Do you have a favorite play you remember the most? Explain:

My favorite play has to be our all go routes. Sending our receivers who all have incredible speed down the field, there’s nothing like it. It’s awesome because someone is always open.

What was last years season like for you?

It was confidence boosting. My freshman season, I got put into 1st string for week 10. And then one playoff game after that. After that I was still very nervous and scared because I knew I was the starting qb. Sophomore season was a learning experience. I had a good first game and then a bad second game. Nobody tore anyone down, everyone lifted eachother up and we bounced back and finished the season 6-4 after a 1-3 start. After that game, I turned it around and found my rythme and ended up throwing for 1630 yards and felt confident with myself every game. Our team won the first round of playoffs for the first time in 9 years and we made it to the semifinals but lost. Overall it was a learning experience and great season.

What are your goals for this coming season?

My goals for this season is to be efficient every game. Step up and make big time plays for the team that gets us rolling. I want my teammates to look at me as a leader on the team, even though I can’t be a captain. I want to lead this team to a district championship which hasn’t been done in 19 years.

Who is the best player you ever lined up against?

Best player I ever lined up against was Andrew Olsen who just transferred to Oregon from Penn State. He was a beast but it was awesome to be playing against someone with that talent level.

What game, yours, college or pro, was your favorite game you watched and why?

Penn state vs Michigan whiteout game. Just an awesome game and it was great to see Penn state pull off the win.

Describe what the perfect teammate is

The perfect teammate is someone that bonds with everyone but pushes everyone. The saying iron sharpens iron truly means something. If a teammate everyone looks up to is pushing not only himself but others to their max, their going to get better.

Tell everyone why you think football is good for a community

I think football is good for a community because it brings everyone together. If there is a good football program, people are gonna come out and support. The players thrive off of fans and energy they bring. If everyone buys in, there will be something special.

Name one thing that you’d love to do in football that may never happen?

Game winning touchdown, Hail Mary last seconds and it drops into the hands of one of my receivers or a hurdle touchdown.

Who is your mentor, the person you want to be like? WHY?

The person I want to be like is my head coach, coach Kutz. Coach Kutz isn’t the loudest person but he knows exactly what he’s talking about. He pushes everyone and gets everyone’s max efforts out of them. It’s awesome to see how people trust him and what he stands for.

What is your favorite practice drill? What is your least favorite practice drill?

Favorite practice drill has got to be deep ball 1 on 1s. Least favorite is definetly 7 bags.

Is there anyone in your family, besides your parents, you could consider your biggest fan? Who, Why?

My grandparents. They are always at every game no matter the distance.

When you aren’t playing, practicing or training for sports, what is your go to activity and why?

Playing golf and practicing my short game. I enjoy getting away and just being at peace playing golf.

What is your favorite play to run?

All go route or dive pass.

is a hot dog a sandwich? If not, then why?

Yes, it’s between two buns

Music of choice:

Country

Best thing you ever got from a teammate? Why?

Advice, helpful and I still use it to this day.

Best pizza topping?

Cheesesteak

What is your favorite vacation destination?

New Smyrna florida

Do you remember what the first football game you saw was?

Whiteout game, Penn state vs Michigan.
