Allentown Central Catholic Gets Defensive in Early Season EPC South Showdown With Emmaus

ALLENTOWN- The year was 2012 in an Eastern Conference playoff contest with Wyoming Valley West out of District 2 that the Emmaus Green Hornets were last shutout by a score of 6-0. On a glorious late summer afternoon at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown the young Vikings of Allentown Central Catholic accomplished the feat by a count of 21-0 before a boisterous crowd in a battle of two teams ranked in Pennsylvania Football News state rankings. The Vikings were eighth in the 4A classification and Emmaus was ranked fifth in the 6A class after two weeks of competition.

Viking quarterback Tamlin Ferguson made his debut by throwing for two scores, both to all-everything wide receiver Griffin Patridge and the defense did it’s job by limiting the Hornets offense to 130 yards total and a negative 35 yards rushing in the victory. Tamlin is no stranger to Lehigh Valley football as he did play at Southern Lehigh, before leaving the area for North Carolina last year. He completed 11 out of 17 passes for 217 yards with two touchdowns.

Ferguson got his team on the board with 8:14 left in the first quarter when he hooked up with Patridge on a 42 yard strike with Luke Myers connecting on the PAT to make it 7-0.

Matt Keyes came into the game to give Ferguson a breather and he completed a seven yard scoring pass to Patridge and the 5:26 mark of that opening quarter, Myers made the point-after and the Vikings took a 14-0 lead into the locker room.

Both teams defense played outstanding in the second half as neither offenses could put any more points up on the scoreboard. The Hornets had their best drive of game as the drove to the Central Catholic 17 but defensive back Armonie Torres picked off an errant pass in the end zone to thwart the threat.

In the final twelve minutes, Ferguson found Patridge in the corner of the west end zone, who made a great over-the-shoulder catch to close out the scoring with 6:19 left in the contest.

Here is victorious coach Tim McGorry’s thoughts on his teams win after the game:

Next week Allentown Central Catholic(3-0) will be on the road at Cottingham Stadium next Friday to face (1-2) Easton, who suffered a 31-17 loss to Bethlehem Freedom Friday night. Emmaus will be back in the Hornet’s nest to face (3-0) Whitehall Zephyrs coming off a 30-6 win over Bethlehem Liberty.
