The Marian Colts started their season off with a shutout win against the Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes. The final score of this matchup was 27-0.

Marian quarterback Bruce Hopeck connected with Micheal Silliman for the first touchdown of the game. The Colts didn’t stop there, Jesse Rodino ran 39 yards for a touchdown just a few possessions later. Brandon Klitsch then completed the two-point conversion. Although the Hurricanes worked downfield, they couldn’t take advantage of their field position. The first quarter closed with the Marian Colts up, 14-0.

Logan Carl gave the Hurricanes a sliver of hope with an interception in the second, along with running back Niko Carestia, who ended up rushing for a total of 91 yards, carrying the ball upfield, but no scoring action could be completed by either team. The score remained 14-0 heading into the locker rooms.

The Colts picked up the scoring in the third when Jayden Fermin broke free for a 73-yard touchdown run. Caden Kash completed the extra point. Marian was up three possessions heading into the final quarter of play, with Hurricane fans holding onto hope.

Unfortunately, the Hurricanes would remain scoreless. Haven quarterback Augustus Warke had eight pass completions in his debut with the Hurricanes, but wasn’t able to connect with his teammates in the endzone. Marian receiver Charlie Hower closed out the game with an 18-yard touchdown. The Colts would take the victory, 27-0.

Head Coach Stan Dakosty and his Marian Colts will continue to defend their territory as they take on Minersville this coming Friday. Hurricane Head Coach Mike Farr and his team will take on Nativity at North Schuylkill on Saturday.
