DISTRICT NOTES – WEEK 9:

RUNNING BACKS:  Gunner Anglovich of Liberty rushed for a school record 391 yards and 7 td’s on 33 carries.  Tim Posivak held the old rushing record for 39 years when he ran for 307 yards against Allen.  Posivak rushed 32 times and scored 4 td’s.  Darren Mason held the old td record when he had 5 td’s vs Pocono Mountain East in 1998 and vs Stroudsburg in 1999.  Mason was also the only other Hurricane to rush for over 300 yards in a game.  Mason had 303 yards on 37 carries in that Stroudsburg game in 1999.  Both of Mason’s 5 td games were accomplished in week ten.  Evan Culver of Saucing Valley rushed for 204 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Notre Dame and became the school’s all-time career rusher (3,814 yards).  But he relinquishes the District lead for rushing yards and td’s to Kyle Boney of Emmaus.  Boney rushed for 377 yards and all 4 td’s in their win over Whitehall.  Boney now has 1,915 yards rushing this year to go along with scoring 30 td’s.  Boney’s 377 yards vs Whitehall broke Andrew Davidson’s school record that he set just last year (315 yards). Boney’s 30 td’s this year also breaks Davidson’s school record of 29 td’s that he set last year.  He joins the “40 td” career club with exactly 40 td’s. KJ Snerr of Marian Catholic scored 5 td’s in their win over Minersville to tie the school record.  Jim Agosti, Bob Agosti, Chris Perhonitch and Justin Barrasso all scored 5 td’s in a game for Marian.  Austyn Borre of Pleasant Valley went over 4,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving for his career in their win over PM East.  Borre moves into 18th place all-time in the District with his 64 career td’s and is tied with Jonathan Linton of Catasauqua, Rashonn Drayton of Central Catholic and Michael McDaniel of Bethlehem Catholic. Wyatt Clements of Lehighton now has 60 td’s and is tied with Mike Tracy of Marian Catholic for 29th place.  Culver has 58 td’s and is tied with Mason of Liberty and Robbie Frey of Lehighton for 32nd place.  Harry Hall of Northwestern has 57 td’s and is tied with Kevin Gulyas of Central Catholic and Chuck Dibilio of Nazareth for 34th place.  Devante Robinson of Dieruff went over 1,000 yards last week and now has 1,084 yards.  Thomas Melchiorre of ES North now has 1,368 yards and 17 td’s.  Melchiorre needs 129 yards to break Joe Clouse’s school single season record.  Melchiorre, only a junior, broke Clouse’s career rushing yardage record (2,362 – 2,253) and is tied with Joe’s brother, Jon for the career td record 28 (td’s).  Bud Moyer of Tamaqua went over 1,000 yards rushing for the second year in a row (1,009).  Saivaughn Vass of Bangor rushed for 221 yards and 3 td’s (all in the second half) in their win over Wilson. I finally put together career rushing stats for Devante Cross of Parkland and I was a bit surprised.  Cross has rushed for 2,378 yards and has scored 35 td’s.  That puts him on the bottom of the first page of the chart.  Cross is currently 16 yards ahead of Melchiorre and 39 yards ahead of Moyer.  Lenny Dulsky of Mahanoy Area went over 2,000 yards rushing for his career and now has 2,033 yards.

QUARTERBACKS:  Tre Jordan of Notre Dame threw for 239 yards and a td pass last week to up his District lead to 2,340 yards.  Jordan also ran for 4 td’s.  Giani Sinatore of Whitehall threw for 369 yards and 2 td passes in their loss to Emmaus.  He broke his own school record of 314 yards that he set last year.  Sinatore has thrown 31 career td passes.  Tevon Weber threw 3 td’s in their win over Palmerton and is back in the District lead with his 24 td passes.  Weber broke Kyle McFarland’s school record of 22 td passes that he set in 2006.  Blake Levengood of Southern Lehigh set the school record for single season passing yardage.  Levengood now has 1,949 yards, breaking Travis Edmond’s old record of 1,902 yards that he set as a junior in 2013.  Levengood is also tied with Travis for single season td passes with 24.  And that also ties Weber for the District lead this year.  Jaden Buchanan of Tri-Valley went over 1,000 yards passing last week as did Dylan Della Valle of PM West.  Ethan Persa of Central Catholic threw for 345 yards in their loss to Liberty. Devante Cross of Parkland went over 5,000 yards passing for his career.  After nursing an injury for the last couple of weeks, Bobby Grigas of North Schuylkill was inserted into the game to start the second quarter and went on to throw for 224 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Schuylkill Haven.  Grigas went over 4,000 yards passing for his career (4,221) and now has 51 career td passes.  Junior, Jake Cirillo of ES South also went over 4,000 yards passing for his career (4,037) and now has 40 career td passes.  Tyler Cann of Lehighton has 30 career td passes.  Brandon Keyes of Pleasant Valley threw for 243 yards and 4 td’s in their win over PM East.  Nick Rodichok of Williams Valley threw 4 td passes for the second game in a row.  Jake Jakobson of Stroudsburg now has 1,458 yards passing and 20 td passes.  Both are school records.  Jakobson broke the 44 year old record that Al McCormick set in 1971 when he threw for 1,361 yards.  Jakobson broke his own td pass record that he set last year with 17.

Looking at the career passing charts for District 11: Tre Jordan remains in 5th place all-time with his 6,849 yards.  Doug Erney of Liberty remains in 11th place (6,058 yards) and is 29 yards behind Dan Kendra lll from Bethlehem Catholic.  Julian Spigner of Bethlehem Catholic (5,227) is now in 21st place.  Devante Cross of Parkland (5,023) moves up to 26th place.  Bobby Grigas is up to 39th place while Jake Cirillo of ES South is now in 42nd place.  For career td passes: Jordan now has 75 career td’s and broke the tie with AJ Long of Pius X and Zack Bradley of Catasauqua.  Jordan is now in a tie for 3rd place all-time in the District with Cole Hildebrandt of Pius X.  Erney has 64 career td’s and is tied with Corey Cinicola of Jim Thorpe for 8th place.  Spigner (54) moves into a tie for 16th place with Barry Kennedy of Catasauqua.  Cross (52) is now in 22nd place.  Bobby Grigas of North Schuylkill is tied for 25th place with 51 career td’s.

RECEIVERS:  Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh leads the District in reception yardage with 1,158 yards.  Price also leads the District with 15 td catches.   Nate Stewart of Bethlehem Catholic now has 152 career catches for 2,583 yards and 32 td catches.  Jahan Dotson holds on to his District lead after catching 8 passes vs Parkland.  Dotson now has 56 catches this year for 970 yards and 11 td catches.  Teammate Julian Liaci now has 50 catches for 620 yards and 7 td’s.  Dotson moved into first place all-time at Nazareth for career receptions with 116.  Chris Garr had 110 receptions from 1986-88.  Dotson is 15 yards behind Garr’s career reception yardage record.  Garr had 1,677 yards while Dotson is currently at 1,662 yards.   Dotson now has 11 td catches this year, breaking Anthony Gaetinello’s record of 10 (2013).  The sophomore phenom also has 20 career td catches, another school record.  Nick Basenese of Notre Dame stays close to Dotson with his 54 catches.  Price’s 1,757 career receiving yards is also tied for 29th place all-time in the District. Dallas Kassis of Central Catholic caught 8 passes for 169 yards and 2 td’s vs Liberty.  Marcello Riccardi of Stroudsburg caught 3 td passes last week to break the single season and career td catch records.  Donovan McDonald held the single season school record with 10 td catches set in 2012.  TJ Backer set the career record last year when he finished with 15.  Riccardi now has 12 td catches on the season and 16 for his career.  Changa Hodge of ES South had another 150 yard receiving day last week.  Hodge now has 24 catches for 782 yards (32.6 avg) and 9 td catches.

Week 9 Trivia:
Austyn Borre of Pleasant Valley has caught 20 or more passes in all four years.  Name the other 3 players that have accomplished this.

Week 8 Trivia: Aaron Weller of Notre Dame has 9 td catches this year.Name the 2 former teammates that currently share the school record with 10 td catches each. Greg Machia in 1990 and Aaron Cerrone in 1991.

Week 7 Trivia:  Name the 2 current head coaches in District 11 that rushed for 1,000 yards in a season for a District 11 team. Josh Snyder of Northwestern did it twice.  In 1996, he rushed for 1,102 yards and in 1997, he rushed for 1,395 yards.  Current North Schuylkill head coach Wally Hall rushed for 1,175 yards in his junior year for Shenandoah Valley in 1992.

Week 6 Trivia:  Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh leads the District with 9 td catches this year.  Price is tied with 2 other players at Southern Lehigh.  Name those 2 players.  Price was tied with Dave Wood and Jeff Smillie.  Wood had 9 in 1974 and Smillie had 9 in 2010.  Price had a td catch last week and now has 10 this year, tying Jake Meluskey’s school record.  Meluskey, a fullback, set the record in 2011 when he caught 32 passes for 508 yards and the 10 td’s.  Meluskey also rushed for 1,139 yards and another 9 td’s.

Week 5 Trivia:  Which one of these Salisbury receivers is tied with current Falcon Mason Donaldson for the most career td catches.  Antoine Hubbard, John Gardus, Andrew Haldeman, Joey Remmel, Chris Burda, Doug Durepo, Scott Gardus or Jesse Phillips.  John Gardus had 14 td catches.  He had 7 in 2006 and 7 more in 2007. Hubbard and Haldeman each had 12 td catches in their careers.

Week 4 Trivia:  Tevon Murray, a 6’6″ wide receiver from North Schuylkill didn’t catch one of Bobby Grigas’ 3 td passes last week vs Marian Catholic.  That snapped a streak of 11 consecutive games with a td catch.  The District 11 record is 14 consecutive games.  Who holds the record? Kevin Gulyas of Central Catholic.  The streak started in 2010 with the playoffs.  Gulyas caught a td in all 6 playoff games including their win over Bishop McDevitt in the State final.  He then caught a td pass in the first 8 games of the 2011 season.  His streak ended when they played in a snow storm vs Allen.  With Central up 33-0 at halftime, the game was called.  Gulyas caught the only 2 completions from Brendan Nosovitch for 6 yards.

Week 3 Trivia:  Jahan Dotson of Nazareth broke the District 11 record for most catches for a player in their freshman and sophomore seasons.  Dotson has 75 catches so far in his career.  Who held the old record with 72 catches?  Matt Camilletti of Pius X (2008-09).

Week 2 Trivia: Name the only pair of brothers from District 11 to each rush for over 1,000 yards in the same season.  Joe and Jim Agosti of Marian Catholic did the trick in 1976.  Senior Joe, rushed for 1,050 yards and 8 td’s, while brother Jim, a junior rushed for 1,274 yards and 23 td’s (both school records at the time).  Jim would go over 1,200 yards again as a senior in 1977.  Jim totaled 142 points in 1976 to break the old Carbon County scoring record that was held since 1956.  Eddie Kocha of Nesquehoning (also a junior) scored 141 points in 9 games.  The year before in 1975, Marian also had 2 players rush for 1,000 yards each.  Pete Albano rushed for 1,268 yards and Fred Segilia rushed for 1,038 yards.  The head coach for the 1975 and 1976 seasons was Chuck Rocconi.  The following year, Stan Dakosky took over the team and is now in his 38th year.

Week 1 Trivia: Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh also broke the District 11 single game receiving yardage record with his 296 yards.  Who held the old District record? Kevin Gulyas (2011 vs Parkland) of Central Catholic and Quintin Lopez (2004 vs Southern Columbia) of Pius X both had 280 yards in a game.
