RUSHING

Another 5 players rushed for over 200 yards in week 9 with Andrew Davidson of Emmaus leading the group for the third week in a row.  Davidson rushed for 293 yards and 5 td’s in their 48-41 loss against Whitehall.  In the last 3 games, Davidson has carried the ball 118 times for 884 yards and has scored 13 touchdowns.    Davidson has rushed for 1,462 yards and scored 21 td’s so far this season.  The 21 td’s is a new school record.  Ed Sikorski previously held the old record of 19 for 73 years (1941).  Davidson is now in 2nd place all-time at Emmaus for single season rushing.  With his 293 yards last week, Davidson moved ahead of Steve O’Brien (1986), Khaleel Artis (2011), Rick Koze (1981), Joe Williams (2010), Jamie Germani (2003), Jason Godusky (1985) and Greg Pierog (1972).  Davidson needs 173 yards to break Jamie Germani’s school record of 1,624 yards that he set in 2004.  Ryan Lawrence of Liberty rushed for 243 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Central Catholic.  That was Ryan’s first 200 yard plus game and he now joins his dad Mike in that category.  Ironically, Mike who played at Freedom rushed for a school record 290 yards in 1983 vs Liberty.  Shane Simpson of Easton went over 200 yards again and scored 4 more td’s in their win over Freedom.  Simpson now has 1,492 yards rushing and 30 td’s this year.  The 30 td’s ties him with Eric Thompson (1993) for the school record in a single season.  Simpson now has 74 career td’s which ties him with Parkland’s Austin Scott for 8th place all-time in the District.  Jason Killian of Schuylkill Haven falls to tenth place on the list with his 71 career td’s from 1989-91.  Simpson moves ahead of 4 more Rovers on the single season rushing chart.  They are: Juan Gaddy (1990 soph), Ovid Goulbourne (2004), Jeff Staton (1988 jr) and Sean Burgio (2001).  Missing the last 2 games where chart leaders Will Casella of Schuylkill Haven and Austyn Borre of Pleasant Valley.  Borre is in danger of not rushing for 1,000 yards in a season for the first time in his career.  James Mungro of East Stroudsburg South is still the only runningback in District 11 to rush for over 1,000 yards in all 4 years.  Michael McDonald of Bethlehem Catholic and KJ Snerr of Marian Catholic also sat out last weeks game.  Matt Miller of Williams Valley had his second 200 yard game of year when he rushed for 222 yards vs Line Mountain.  Miller now has 1,336 yards this year placing him in the top five all-time at Williams Valley.  Christian Gretzinger of Palisades ran for 207 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Notre Dame.  Gretzinger now has 3,107 yards in his career and has scored 37 td’s.  Saquon Barkley of Whitehall now has 60 career td’s.  That ties him with Mike Tracy of Marian Catholic and Niko Petrone of East Stroudsburg South for 24th place all-time in the District.  With his 1,590 yards rushing this year, Barkley moves ahead Andrew Harris on the single season chart at Whitehall.  Harris had 1,489 yards in 2011.  Gerald Douglas of Stroudsburg still leads the District with his 1,631 yards rushing.  Simpson retakes the td lead from Barkley and now leads 30 to 28.  Shakur Lester of Dieruff needs 89 yards rushing and 40 yard receiving vs Allen to have 2,500 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in his career.  Evan Culver of Saucon Valley has now scored 20 td’s this year, placing him in 3rd place all-time at the school, one behind Wayne Marish who had 21 in 1968.  Nick Savant holds the record when he scored 31 td’s last year.  John Rupinski of North Schuylkill now has 1,276 yards rushing and has scored 17 td’s this year.  That places him in the top 5 for both categories at the school.  Other Spartan greats that have scored 17 td’s in a season where, John Bozena (1988), Gino Capone (1997) and Ed Pavalko (2009).  Elijah McBride of East Stroudsburg North became the 8th Timberwolve to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season.  Robert Heller of Jim Thorpe also went over 1,000 yards last week before leaving the game with an injury.

PASSING
Chris Marks of Dieruff lead the District last week when he threw for 253 yards in their loss to East Stroudsburg South.  Marks went over 1,000 yards for the second time and now has 1,142 yards this year.  Brandon Kuehner of Pleasant Valley threw for 241 yards in their win over Pocono Mountain East, pushing his yearly total to 1,490 yards.  Tre Jordan of Pius X threw for 224 yards (12 for 12) and 4 td’s last week, to up his District lead to 2,030 yards and 26 td passes.  Travis Edmond of Southern Lehigh broke his brother Ty’s single season td pass record.  Ty had 19 in 2011 while Travis now has 21 so far this season.  Travis also went over 5,000 yards passing for his career and now stands at 5,032 yards and 52 td passes.  Doug Erney of Liberty now has 1,968 yards passing and has thrown 20 td passes this year and 40 for his career.  Erney needs 137 yards passing against Freedom to break Dan Persa’s single season record of 2,104 yards that he set in 2006.  Devante Cross of Parkland has thrown for 1,485 yards this year.  That’s 2nd best all-time at Parkland behind John Laub’s 1,677 yards that he threw in 2007.  Cross has thrown 16 td passes this year and is currently tied with Ryan Brown and Joe Fortenbaugh for 2nd place all-time at Parkland.  Laub owns the record with 22 td passes that he also set in 2007.  Mason Kholi of Central Catholic threw for 245 yards last week to go over 1,000 yards again and now has 1,179 yards with 16 td passes.  Sophomore Jake Cirillo of East Stroudsburg South went over 2,000 yards and 20 td passes for his career.  Cirillo has 2,031 yards and 22 td passes.  Junior, Tyler Cann of Lehighton, threw for 218 yards in their win over Tamaqua and now has 1,149 yards passing and 10 td passes this year.  Cann has thrown for 2,030 yards in his career.  Giani Sinatore of Whitehall became the 7th Zephyr to pass for over 1,500 yards in a season.  Sinatore’s 1,532 yards places him in 7th place.  Junior Zach Thatcher of Saucon Valley and sophomores Garrett Perschy of Palmerton and Ethan Kuczynski of Marian Catholic all went over 1,000 yards passing for the season.

RECEIVING
Jeff Yordy of Pottsville Nativity caught 8 passes from Dominic Piccioni last week for 127 yards and 3 td’s to keep the streak alive at 9 weeks in a row with at least one player with 3 td catches in a game.  Also, just found out this week that Nativity played 2 games in week 5 after having a bye week in 4.  In that game vs Bucktail, Yordy caught 5 passes for 201 yards and 3 td’s.  He has 42 catches this year and now leads the District with 913 receiving yards and 15 td catches.  Junior, Tevin Murray of North Schuylkill went over 1,000 yards receiving for his career (1,016).  Junior, Nate Stewart of Pius X leads the District with 56 catches followed by freshman Jahan Dotson of Nazareth with 48.
