the beautiful Olympian Stadium was the setting for a Spartan win

In Friday night’s battle of undefeated Schuylkill League front runners, it was North Schuylkill who proved why they’re still Kings of the league with a 36-0 throttling of Jim Thorpe.

After an opening drive punt, the Spartan’s defense forced the first miscue of the night for the Olympians, intercepting Thorpe QB Davier Calcano’s pass inside their own 50. It didn’t take long for the Spartans to capitalize as Quarterback Jake Hall connected with running back Josh Chowansky out of the back field for the first score of the game.

Later in the first, Hall went up top to Tanner Walacavage for 60 yards to extend the lead to 14-0. For much of the second quarter the teams exchanged punts, interceptions, and fumbles, until it was North Schuylkill finding pay dirt again on a Jaxon Chowansky 1 yard score. The Spartans took a 21-0 lead into the half.

After an opening drive punt to start the 3rd, NS stuck again. Hall connected twice on the drive to receiver Dylan Dietz, with the second being a 27 yard touchdown to extend the lead to 27-0. The Spartans added 2 more points to the board when a snapped punt sailed over the head of Olympian’s Travis Benson and out of the back of the end zone.

Midway through the 4th, North Schuylkill put the final nail in the coffin when Josh Chowansky broke several Thorpe tackles on his way to a 39 yard touchdown for a final of 36-0. Chowansky racked up 185 yards on the ground and 2 scores on the night, while teammate Dylan Dietz accounted for 135 yards receiving,  2 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions on the defensive end.

Jim Thorpe looks to rebound next week as they travel to Lehighton to take on their bitter rival in a battle for the Route 209 Trophy. North Schuylkill will host the Marian Colts in hopes of continuing their domination of the Schuylkill League.
