The EPC South conference in a grinder. Last night’s choice cut to enter the grinder was the 4-1 Emmaus Hornets taking on 4-1 Bethlehem Catholic. It was the 5th ranked 6A Hornets who ground out a 42-12 win against a tough Hawks team despite the strange delay in the first quarter.

The Hornets recieved the opening kick and went right to work. The got a 43 yard pass from Jake Fotta to Dylan Darville to get deep in Beca territory. Fotta ran the ball in from 5 for the first score of the game. The kick after put the Hornets up 7-0 with 8:03 to play in the first quarter.

Then things got strange. Play was halted due to a drone circling BASD stadium. Both teams were sent to their benches. (Drones are not to be used during PIAA sanctioned contests for many reasons including liabilty and the possibility of them being used for scouting teams.)

When the drone disappeared, Emmaus forced a quick Beca 3 and out. Tylik Jarvis churned off a huge 43 yd run to put Hornets in red zone. A personal foul made it 4th and 4. Emmaus couldn’t convert resulting in a  turnover on downs.

The Hornet defense forced Beca into another 3 and out and took over on Beca 43 leading 7-0. Later in that drive Jamel Clements picked up a Jake Fotta fumble and rumbles untouched 93yds to the house. A bad snap and throw for 2 failed keeping the score 7-6 in favor of the Hornets with under a minute to play in the first.

Then we hit another delay. Officials at BASD Stadium announced a 15 minute delay as the drone came back. Teams were cleared to locker rooms.

Once the teams returned to the field the first quarter was finally given a chance to end. Emmaus 7 Becahi 6

When the second quarter began Aiden Garrett downed a punt at the Beca 1. The Hornets forced a third straight 3 and out and got ball at Hawks 25. Fotta hit Ryan DeJohn for a 3yd TD to make it 14-6 Emmaus and that seemed to open the floodgates.

A Dylan Darville interception put the Hornets at the Hawks 33 and Hornets made it to the Hawk 19 before a holding call backed up to the 31 still leading 14-6. Darville caught a 14yd TD pass over the middle with Fotta under pressure making it 21-6 Emmaus. 4:37 left in the half

Yet againHawks go 3 and out and this time the punt went straight up and the wind took it backwards. Emmaus took over on the Hawks 19. A Darville 6yd TD run made it 28-6 Emmaus at the half.

Becahi crossed midfield on opening drive of second half but they punted. Emmaus got ball at their own 28 and drove 7 plays and Jarvis finished with 16yd TD.  35-6 Hornets

Hawks Rahmel Terry capped a 9 play scoring drive with a 7yd TD. Emmaus35 Becahi 12 with 17 seconds left in the third quarter.

Ryan DeJohn took a Terry fumble 44 yards to the house to close out the scoring.
