Freedom Outlasts Stroudsburg 14-0 In Opener
After losing a large contingent of contributors from a solid 10-3 team that made the district final and graduated 20+ players, questions existed about how the Patriots would respond in the 2023 opener.
Playing against a physical Stroudsburg team, the Patriots were slow to start but were able to gradually assert themselves on the line and take control of the contest after a gritty, see-saw first half that saw Stroudsburg put forth a spirited effort in their home opener in front of a near sell out crowd in the Poconos.
6’4″ junior QB Chase Walker broke the ice with a 3yd TD run with :12 to go in the half to make the score 7-0 going to the break in favor of the Patriots. Right out the gate in the second half, Noah Pierre added a second score on the Patriots opening drive in the second half to push it to 14-0 and set the final score.
Freedom had several opportunities in the red zone,  were plagued by some mental mistakes in the final portion of the field but were able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and were able to slowly wear down the Mountaineers to grind out a hard fought victory.
The Patriots face a tough test next weekend against Parkland, while the Mountaineers take on Pocono Mountain West and will be favored in that contest.
