Miners quick start scores big over the Blue Devils in a 48 to 7 victory at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Minersville.
With the rain coming down before and during the game, most teams will run the ball. Minersville did just that on Sunday rushing for 175 yards on 20 carries, most of the yardage coming in the first half with RB-Luke Stevenosky who would tear up the Blue Devil defense, rushing for 163 yards, on just 12 carries, all in the process of scoring a total of 6 touchdowns, all in the first half building his teams lead to 42 to 0 at the break.
The second half started out pretty much like the first when the Battlin’ Miners, Lorenzo Yourey would take the second half kickoff 76 yards to extend the lead to 48 to 0. Shenandoah Valley never gave up. The Blue Devils would eventually get into the end-zone in the fourth quarter when QB-Ben Dempster would connect with WR-Nick Ryan on a quick slant, that would go for 74 yards and the score. On that play, Nick would break the school record for career touchdowns as a WR with 22. This touchdown reception would be his 7th on the season thus far with many more to come for sure.
That wasn’t the only record to be hit as Minersville’s RB-Luke Stevenosky would tie the school record for touchdowns scored in a single game with 6, and as stated above, all 6 touchdowns came in the first half which I’m sure in some kind of record or a tie at least. I will have to confirm that.
QB-Dante Carr would have a slow night passing for the game with how much rain was falling, but he did manage to get off 2 passes that were completed, Lorenzo Yourey on the receiving end of those passes, would end up with 35 yards on 2 receptions. The Miners would only earn about 200 yards of offense but that would be enough against the Blue Devils passing attack that was pretty much downed due to the rain and wet conditions on the field throughout the game. Shenandoah Valley would finish the game with 146 yards, 60 rushing and 86 passing.
On the season, the Miners are still undefeated at 3-0 and getting better each week. The Blue Devils fall to 1-2 but still have high hopes to get above .500 at the halfway point. Up next for the Blue Devils, are the Panther Valley Panthers, who are also 1-2 thus far, then host (0-2)Hancock,MD before having to travel to the always tough Tri-Valley Bulldogs(2-1). Minersville will travel to (2-1)Williams Valley this coming Friday night in what should be a battle between TWO beasts of a running-backs in Alex Achenbach, and of course the Miners Luke Stevenosky.
