Crusaders Blow Open Close Game With Twenty-Eight Second Half Points in Rout of Olympians.

BETHLEHEM TWP- We all heard the cliche- Taking it one game at a time-, well with the official half-way point of the newly formed Schuylkill/Colonial League regular season concluded Monday night at Notre Dame Crusaders Stadium, Notre Dame kept pace with fellow unbeaten North Schuylkill, as the Crusaders rolled past Jim Thorpe 49-21 as their clash of titans lies ahead on October 8th at Crusaders Stadium. But before that, there is still business to take care of.

Notre Dame got off to a hot start by scoring the first twenty-one points Monday night, all via touchdown passes from quarterback Colin Quintano to three different receivers. The first came off the opening 85 yard drive on just 4 plays, a three yard toss to Nadir Sanders with just fifty-six ticks gone off the clock for a 7-0 lead.

Quintano then found receiver Logan Castellano on a 44 yard score at the 6:35 mark of the corner on a short post completion at the 25, Castellano did the rest by running away from two Olympian defenders to make it 14-0.

Tarif Muhammad was on the receiving end of a 59 yard pass from Quintano with 8:23 left in the first half to make it 21-0 in favor of the home team and seemed to have the game well in hand, but Jim Thorpe would go down so easy,

The Olympians trying to keep the potent Crusaders offense off the field as much as possible, put together a nice drive culmulating in a three yard run by with 3:35 remaining till half to cut the lead to 21-7 by running back Camron Tinajero.

On the ensuing Notre Dame Drive, Olympian DB David Fiorito stepped in front of a Quintano pass and cruised 45 yards to the house and trimming the deficit to seven 21-14 with 1:47 on the clock and that score would hold up as the Crusaders drove deep into Jim Thorpe territory but end on a fumble on the last play of the half.

Jim Thorpe received the second half kickoff and took possession at the twenty, however a bad snap was recovered by the Crusaders at the 15 yard line from there Castellano capped the short drive going in from five yards to make it 28-14 with 9:55 left in the third quarter.

The Olympians answered that score with an impressive 6 play drive of their own and with 7:32 left in the quarter Tinajero scored his second touchdown from five yards to get within one score 28-21.

That would be as close as the Olympians would get as Quintano tossed three more touchdowns as the Crusader defense stiffened by not allowing any more scores for the last quarter and a half. Quintano and Ryan Frinzi hooked up on a quick slant near the goal line with 2:03 still to play in the third quarter and dove over the line for a 35-21 lead.

Muhammad again was on the receiving end of a Quintano bomb with 10:58 left in the contest, this time from 60 yards and a 42-21 lead.

Just for good measure Quintano connected on his sixth touchdown of the bight on a six yard pass to Gavin Gibbs with 6:05 left to make the final margin 49-21.

With the win Notre Dame Green Pond goes to 5-0 with a trip to 2-3 Tamaqaua on Friday night, while the Olympians 2-3 will try to get back to .500 as they host winless Pen Argyl Friday night.

Here is Notre Dame coach Phil Stambaugh’s thoughts on the game tonight:
