The theme of the night was *pajama night*, but for the Freedom Patriots football team, it was ” play four quarters “, stated by players and head coach after the game. Bethlehem Freedom did just that in their victory over the DXI Class 6A #1 seed Emmaus Hornets 28 to 27. The Patriots started things off going 65 yards on 10 plays, capped off with an Ethan Neidig pass to Owen Johnson for 17 yards and the score. A blocked extra point attempt would come into play later in the half but the Patriots had the lead 6 to 0 with 5:57 to go in the opening quarter.

Emmaus would show why they’re the #1 seed on their opening possession driving 70 yards on a impressive 17 plays, taking us into the second quarter, finished off with a QB scamper for 17 yards and the score putting the Hornets in from 7 to 6 after the PAT was good. The Hornets drive would use up 7 minutes off the clock in total. The Patriots would go three and out on their next drive punting down to the Emmaus 11 yard line with 8:57 to go in the first half.

Another impressive drive by the Hornets would give them the lead 14 to 6 after a 10 play 89 yard drive capped off by a 7 yard run by Tylik Jarvis. with 4:00 minutes to go until halftime. On the drive, Emmaus wide-receiver Dylan Darville broke the school record of 1000+ yards receiving for a season when he would haul in a 16 yard pass from Jake Fotta.

Freedom wasn’t ready to back down just yet as they would put together a decent drive of their own going 74 yards on 9 plays, using up over 3 minutes off the clock, scoring on a 1 yard run by quarterback Neidig to close the gap to 14 to 12, following a failed two-point conversion attempt by the Patriots with just :23 seconds to go till halftime. Emmaus would run the clock off on their next possession, taking a 14 to 12 lead going into the locker room, preparing to receive the second half kickoff.

Emmaus wasted no time coming out of the locker room, beginning from their 37 after a kickoff return by Darville. Just 5 plays, 63 yards later, we had ourselves a 21 to 12 ball game when Tylik Jarvis would score his second touchdown of the game, after he would grab the Jake Fotta pass and go 8 yards into the endzone with 9:21 to go in the third.

The Patriots would answer however on their next drive when a couple runs by Jalen Fletcher and a big catch by Alexie Sangster for 31 yards on 3rd and 3, would have the Patriots in Hornets territory. Two plays later following the Sangster catch, Jalen Fletcher would go 13 yards to pay dirt and once again, close the gap to 21 to 20 after the two-point conversion attempt was converted. Each team would punt on their next possession, then with just about two minutes to go in the third, Emmaus QB-Fotta would see his pass tipped at the line, and intercepted by senior MLB-John Roeder. A penalty on the Hornets would give the Patriots great field possession at the Emmaus 8 yard line, first and goal. Jalen Fletcher would get the call, going two plays, 8 yards for the score with :37 seconds to go still in the third giving Freedom the lead for the second time in the game 28 to 21.

In the final quarter of play, we saw back and fourth action as both teams would battle. With 8:18 to go in the game, Emmaus would have themselves at the Patriots 43 yard line following a blocked punt but just three plays later, the Hornets would have to punt away back to Freedom. With 4:26 to go in the game, Emmaus would have the ball at the Patriots 32 yard line. Four plays was all it took and we were looking at a possible tie game after a touchdown run by Fotta, his second of the game, for 3 yards had the score at 28 to 27 Hornets trailing, with the PAT coming up but, with a penalty on the Patriots, Emmaus now had the ball at the 1 yard line and momentum so instead of kicking the game tying PAT, Head Coach called for a two-point attempt instead. The play would end in a 2 yard loss and the Patriots with the lead 28 to 27 with 2:44 to go.

Emmaus would have one last chance when they would have the Patriots at 4th down a 1 yard to go at the Freedom 34 but an offsides on the Hornets would give them a first down and two kneel downs later, the game was over and the Patriots would get their revenge on their season opening loss to the Hornets, winning 28 to 27, sending them to the District XI Class 6A Championship game next weekend against the Parkland Trojans, a team the Patriots lost to earlier in the season 21 to 13. With the win, Freedom improves to 10-2 on the season, winning their 9th game in a row, and earning a bid to win back to back DXI Class 6A Titles. Emmaus ends the season at 10-2.

The students and fans for both teams were hyped up for this one tonight but in the end, it was Patriots side making the noise at the end.
