This week’s edition of Dan’s Double Down:

Games of the Week:
Wyomissing Spartans(1-0) vs Pottsville Area Crimson Tide(1-0)
The Spartans have won 3 of the last 5 vs the Tide, including the last time these two have met at which saw Wyomissing win in overtime 21 to 20. Players to watch in this game will be Wyomissing’s TE Aiden Mack, and Pottsville’s Jazce snowell-Carabello, and RB Amari Dunn. Pottsville defeated Selinsgrove last week 12 to 0, while the Spartans won against Daniel Boone 41 to 14. This should be one heck of a game. If the Tide’s defense can keep up with the Spartans offense, special teams might come into play. I just think the Spartans have too many more weapons and therefore…. My Pick: Spartans squeeze by 31 to 23 !

Blue Mountain Eagles(1-0) vs North Schuylkill Spartans(1-0)
Blue Mountain comes into this game on a high from last week’s victory over Jim Thorpe 30 to 20 behind the coaching of rookie coach Tom Gallagher, who I might add, is a former student of North Schuylkill and played his high school football there under Head Coach Walter “Wally” Hall. North Schuylkill comes into this matchup victorious in their last 13 straight Schuylkill League *regular season* games and 11 straight Schuylkill League Division 1 *regular season* games dating back to the 2018/2019 season. The Eagles last victory over the Spartans was back in 2016 when they won 16 to 7. Last season, the Spartans defeated the Eagles at the Eagles Nest 20 to 14 in overtime. Much like Pottsville, if the Eagles defense can keep up with the Spartans offense and all their weapons, this too will come down to whoever has possession last. My Pick: Sorry to my former school… I have to go with the offensive weapons of the Spartans, 35 to 21 !
