SAUCON VALLEY PUTS IT AWAY IN 3RD QUARTER

Hellertown, PA.  When Saucon Valley hosted Salisbury on Friday evening, both teams came off hard-fought losses last week. Saucon to Notre Dame 47-20 and Salibury lost a defensive struggle to Catasauqua 6-0.  Salisbury came in as underdogs to an experienced Panther team.  But Salisbury held its own until the middle of the 3rd quarter when things got a little out of hand and they succumbed to a 31-14 loss at the hands of Saucon Valley.

Quarterback Dante Mahaffey got things going with 7:14 left in the 1st quarter on a 6-yard run and the Panthers were up 7-0.  The Mahaffey came back and hit Eternal Aris on a 13-yard scoring strike and with 7:43 to go before half Saucon Valley was up 14-0 and in control.

Salisbury came out in the second half and cut that lead to 14-7 when Falcon quarterback Nick Beck took it on from 5-yards out and it was 14-7 Saucon Valley.  Beck finished the night with 71 yards on 14 carries.

Two scores by Saucon Valley in the late 3rd quarter sealed the deal, when Damian Garica took it in from 14-yards out, and then Mahaffey hit the wide receiver, Alex Magnotta, on an 8-yard strike and it was 28-14 Panthers.  Garcia finished with 13 carries and 53 yards and Mahaffey had 13 carries for 56 yards for Saucon Valley.

Saucon added a late field goal and the game ended 31-14.  I had predicted a 30-14 win by the Panthers and my fellow broadcaster was astonished that I mussed it by one point.

Linebacker Ty Pfizenmayer was very effective from his linebacker position and also blocked a Salisbury punt early in the game.
