In a Schuylkill League(Division 1) clash between two 2019 District XI champions, Pottsville(3-1) rolled to their 3rd straight victory of the season and the 700th win in the storied Crimson Tide program, defeating previously unbeaten Tamaqua Blue Raiders(3-1) at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium on Senior Night 21 to 12. Pottsville took the lead in the first quarter when Travontai Davis hauled in a pass from quarterback Jazce Carabello-Snowell and took it 23 yards to the end zone for the only score of the first quarter, extra point was good making the score 7 to 0 Tide.  Tamaqua scored next in the 2nd quarter from a interception by Nate Curvey returned 3 yards for the touchdown, with the extra point missed, Tamaqua trailed 7 to 6.  Following the score, Pottsville answered quickly with Travontai Davis returning the kickoff 77 yards for the score, again, the extra point was good to make the score 14 to 6 Pottsville, the score also at halftime.

To start the second half, the Tide received the ball but didn’t get much out of that first series.  The Tide’s defense giving up an average of 16 points a game, stepped up to the challenge from head coach Tom McGeoy by allowing just one touchdown by the high powered Tamaqua offense which averaged 40 points per game.  The Blue Raiders had their best series of the game when they held the ball for over seven minutes in the 3rd quarter, going 79 yards on 14 plays, scoring their only offensive touchdown when quarterback Nate Wickersham scrambled away from the Tide rush and ran it in for an 11 yard touchdown late in the 3rd quarter to make the score 14 to 12 after a failed two-point conversion.  Tamaqua’s defense came out strong in the second half allowing just one touchdown, when QB Jazce Carabello-Snowell ran a bootleg to left 15 yards for the score making it 21 to 12.  Pottsville’s defense held the Blue Raiders high powered running game to just 81 yards on 36 carries. Pottsville has now won the last 2 games vs Tamaqua and 4 of 5 since 2016. Next week the Tide travel to Pine Grove(1-3) which won last night at Blue Mountain 20 to 12, and Tamaqua travels to Blue Mountain(1-3).
