Trojans shoot down Hawks in EPC South matchup 38 to 14 at BASD Stadium in Bethlehem !

Coming into the game, Parkland had won their previous two games, 38 to 7, and 57 to 8 over Pleasant Valley(who was 5-0 at the time), and E. Stroudsburg South. The Trojans also defeated the Hawks last season 35 to 7.

Parkland’s Trey Tremba wasted no time scoring on the Trojans sixth play from scrimmage from a yard out but not before a deep pass from Luke Spang to Nakhi Bullock for 44 yards setting up the scoring play. Bullock would finish the game with just one more reception, ending with 47 yards receiving. Bethlehem Catholic couldn’t seem to get anything going on offense until the second half. Two more scores by the Trojans in the first quarter would see this game beginning to get out of reach early when on a double-reverse from Tremba to Bullock would add to the lead 14 to 0 when Bullock would take the handoff from Tremba and rush left down the sidelines for the score from 16 yards out. A three and out by the Golden Hawks would setup the next score for Parkland on just 1 play, a 48 yard strike from Spang to Tremba, giving the Trojans a quick 21 to 0 lead, still in the first quarter.

Parkland would have an opportunity to score again but a missed field goal, wide left from kicker Gryffin Mitstifer would keep the score 21 to 0 now in the second quarter of play. Bethlehem Catholic would see some offense from its rushing game but caught behind early, had to throw more than they wanted. The Golden Hawks would rack up 89 yards on the ground in the half, but went 4 of 15 passing for just 23 yards while the Trojans quarterback would have a big opening half going 8 of 13 for 169 yards, with 2 touchdown passes. Still in the first half, Parkland wasn’t finished. The next series for the Hawks went backwards instead of forward as penalties and a sack would halt the drive, and they’d be forced to punt, the punt would be blocked by Jr.-Robbie Ruisch and Parkland would take over at the Hawks 9.  Three plays later, Spang would connect on his second TD pass of the half, this one to Jack Harrison for 8 yards with 4:37 to go in the half. That wasn’t the end yet for the Trojans as kicker Mitstifer would add to the lead when he drilled a 43 yard field goal with :31 seconds to go.

Parkland, leading at the half, 31 to 0, finished with 236 yards of offense to the Hawks 112(23 rushing).

There would be just one score in the third quarter when the Golden Hawks started to find their stride, going 87 yards on 13 plays, running almost five minutes off the clock however in the process. Senior Jaiden Ellis-lahey would score from 13 yards out getting points on the board for Becahi. The energy and momentum for the Hawks was short lived however as the Trojans would have a drive of their own on their next possession, just 6 seconds into the fourth quarter, Freshman RB-Marquez Wimberly would get the call from here on out, scoring on a 20 yard run, giving the Trojans their final score of the evening, leading 38 to 7.

Later in the fourth quarter, Bethlehem Catholic would drive again, 80 yards on 14 plays, finish off by Senior Rahmel Terry on a 3 yard run, a two-point conversion would have the score now at 38 to 14 with 7:26 to go. Parkland would eventually run out the clock by kneeling at the Hawks 10. The Trojans could’ve easily added more points to the scoreboard but a slide at the 2 by Junior Satoshi Rosenblum, would have Parkland 1st and goal at the 2, 3 plays later, the Trojans would close the game by kneeling at the 10.  With the win, Parkland, now 5-3, keeps their playoff chances alive sitting just outside the top 4 in the Class 6a District XI rankings, 1 game back with 2 games to go. Even though the Golden Hawks lost, they still lead the way in District XI Class 4a with a 4-4 record ahead of ACC, Bangor and Pottsville, followed by Blue Mountain closely in fifth.
