Several days ago the UConn Huskies got a commitment from a very talented defensive end from Stroudsburg High School. Nathan Voorhis is an imposing force on the edge for the Mounties, and now after his senior season he’ll be an imposing force for coach Randy Edsel and the UConn Huskie Program. The 6-3 and 230 pounds Voorhis doesn’t light up the line with his speed, but his power and football skills puts him in position to make a play on the ball carrier in a hurry.  He know’s where the play is going seemingly before the ball is snapped.  No mistake by Edsel to lock this one up early, Voorhis should excel with the Husky program.

We caught up with Nathan to find out what went into his decision to commit to the Huskies.

PFN: How long have you played football?

I started playing in 6th grade, this upcoming season will be my seventh year

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the Huskies?

I chose to commit because they’ve talked to me everyday and always been there. I got to visit on June 2nd and I loved campus.

PFN: Why commit to the Huskies?

I felt I wanted to be a Husky

PFN: Who was your biggest influence at UCONN, who recruited you?

Most definitely Coach Corey Edsall. I was on FaceTime on texting him everyday

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

They are getting somebody that’s going to outwork everybody else they have.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

It was very slow until late April and then a couple schools started showing interest and I picked up my first offer

PFN: What was your reason for committing early?

There’s no reason to wait if I feel this is the place I want to be

PFN: What position were you recruited for?

Defensive End

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

Something in Business

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?

My parents played a big role in my decision because they wanted me to go somewhere that was great academically

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the UCONN program?

I think the most exciting thing is that now that UConn is an independent we will face a lot of the highly ranked power 5 schools.

PFN: What are you most looking forward to while playing for the Huskies?

I’m looking forward to facing those top ranked power 5 schools and the opportunity to go on to play at the professional level

PFN: Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:

Up until I started playing football in sixth grade my dream was to be in the MLB

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

I think the person who influenced my football career the most is my best friend, Tyler Cusumano, he’s always with me putting in work. I wouldn’t be in the position I’m in today without him.

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

I think the only thing I want to say is hank you to everybody who’s been there supporting me from the beginning
