Vikings Come Out on Top

The Williams Valley Vikings hosted Mahanoy Friday night at Stauffenberg field for the District 11 Semi-Final game. The Vikings came out on top winning 27-22, which sends them to the District 11 Finals where they will play Tri Valley.

The Vikings started off the game with the ball and set the tone right away when Bryce Herb linked up with Alex Achenbach for a 40 yard touchdown, which put the Vikings up 7-0. Mahanoy got the ball down to the Vikings 10 but the Vikings defense came up big and forced them to turn it over on downs. Neither team was able to put together a drive that ended the first quarter with the Vikings up 7-0.

The Vikings got the ball to Mahanoy 25 but unable to convert on fourth down Mahanoy took over. However, the very next play Vikings forced a fumble and Gage Miller recovered it which put the Vikings on Mahanoy 15. Jesse Engle ran it 1 yard in the endzone to finish off the drive, which made it 13-0.

Mahanoy finally linked their drive together and Ben Terry ran it 31 yards to the endzone making it 13-7. But the Vikings responded right back when Bryce Herb linked with Jake Herman for a 38 yard touchdown. With a successful two point conversion the Vikings extended their lead 21-7. The Vikings went into halftime up 21-7.

Mahanoy started off the third quarter with the ball. They linked together yet another drive when Ben Terry linked with Chris Cuff for a 38 yard touchdown. They went for a two point conversion and were successful which made it 21-15. The Vikings responded back yet again when Bryce Herb linked with Brady Evans for a 13 yard touchdown, unable to get the two point conversion. The Vikings still led 27-15. With a couple minutes left in the third quarter Mahanoy Ben Terry linked with Colm McGroarty for a 44 yard touchdown which made it 27-22.

With a back and forth battle the whole fourth quarter the game ended with the Vikings winning 27-22. For the VIkings Alex Achenbach led in rushing with 21 carries for 151 yards. Bryce Herb led in passing with 119 yard while Herman led in receiving with 2 receptions for 46 yards. For Mahanoy Ben Terry led in rushing with 21 carries for 150 yards. Ben Terry also led in passing with 119 yards, while Chris Cuff led in receiving with 2 receptions for 67 yards.
