Thanks to Dawn Daub and husband for the story.

Alex Achenbach did his thing to get Williams Valley rolling with an 83 yard td jaunt to put the Vikings up 7-0 on their first drive of the night, then the Vikings defense held on in overtime to give the visiting Vikings a 31-28 win in overtime in front of a packed house at Minersville.

This game was a battle from the opening kick off. Dante Carr hit Logan Hutsko to tie the game at 7 and that’s what the score was to start the second quarter.

The Vikings pulled ahead again in the second with another td run from Achenbach, this a 10 yard run. Sage Smeltz kick made it 14-7.

Right back came the Miners with a 51 yard td run by Luke Stevenosky. Stevenosky ran for over 200 yards and two scores.

On the ensuing kick, Minersville tried a little trickery with an onside kick it worked. The Miners had good field position and Carr took advantage hitting Easton Schultz for a 10 yard td pass to give Minersville the lead for the first time.

Things calmed down for a little while and the score remained 21-14 at the break.

The Viking opened the second half with a td drive to tie the score. Brady Shomper hit Kian Kryzanowski for a long td pass.

Achenbach got his third td of the night with a 14 yard run to put the Vikings up 28-21 with 3:24 left in the third quarter, then it was Stevenosky who tied the game at 28 with this big td run.

That’s where the score stayed the rest of the fourth quarter. In OT, the Vikings defense held and on their possession they got the game winning field goal from Smeltz.
