Williams Valley wins turnover battle, dispatches Marian Catholic Gallery/Game recap video

Williams Valley kicker Chett Pesta lined up for a 27 yard field and put the ball through the uprights. That kick started the scoring in this District 11 playoff game. Those 3 points came with just 44 seconds left in the first quarter. The score remained 3-0 until the fourth quarter. To sum up the entire first half there were 4 punts, 2 interceptions, a fumble, turnover on downs, a field goal and a missed field goal. The second half didn’t show much more….until the 9:15 mark in the fourth quarter when Bryce Herb found Bo Raho from 26 yards out to put the Vikings up 10-0. They would eventually get one more score putting the final at 17-0 earning a date with Tri-Valley next week for the 1A District 11 title.  “We had opportunities in the first half, we just capitalize. Whether it was turnovers or penalties or whatever it may be” said Colts Head Coach Pat Morgans of the loss.

The Colts turned the ball over 5 times, fumbling away twice and quarterback Mason Miller was picked off three times. The game started off just as the score indicates, with three straight punts. On their second possession Williams Valley, starting at the Marian 48, reached the 3 yard line where Pesta booted his field goal. On the ensuing drive the Colts reached the Viking 29, but two straight negative yardage plays and an interception by Jesse Engle ended that drive. Dakota Streisel returned the

favor picking off Herb. Four plays later they gave it back.

The Colts did have another opportunity at the end of the half but a 40 yard field goal attempt never made it to the opposite side of the endzone and the score remained 3-0 at halftime. The second half picked up where the first half left off. Streisel got his second pick of the night, ruining a Viking drive t

hat started at the Colt 42 thanks to a 52 yard kick return. Marian turned the ball over 2 more times. After the second, an interception by Herb at the 40, the Vikings began moving the ball with Herb finding Raho for that 26 yard td.


After forcing yet another Colt punt, the Vikings broke the game open on a one play drive, a 65 yard run by Brady Miller to put the score at 17-0 late in the fourth, a play that Viking Head Coach Tim Savage believes was one of their best plays run all night. Miller ran for 131 yards and the score. For his second start, Herb (who got the quarterback duty due to an injury to Levi Engle) threw for 70 yards, most of those yards attributable to Raho. “He did everything we asked him to and he’ll continually improve” said Savage.
