Friday night the Academy Park Knights defeated the Harry S Truman Tigers by a score of 27-18 to bring their Spring record to 1-1. The Knights were led by Junior running back Ibrahim Sanogo that finished with three rushing touchdowns and two sacks.

Throughout the night both teams struggled offensively and both teams struggled to overcome penalties. Neither team could catch a break until the second quarter. From six yards out Sanogo punched his way into the endzone for his first touchdown of the night. The point-after attempt was good, making the score 7-0 Knights.

The Tigers really couldn’t find an offensive groove like they had the week before. Sanogo ended the first Tigers drive with a huge third-down sack and their second drive ended with a punt. And on their third drive of the night, the Tigers fumbled the ball and the Knights jumped on the ball at the 25-yard line. However, the Tigers caught a break and the Knights were unable to capitalize with good field position. After getting the ball back the Tigers finally found their groove and the drive ended with a Terrell Delp 10 yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion was no good making the score 7-6 Knights still in the lead.

The following Knights drive ended with a Tigers defender jumping in front of a pass for the interception. However, the Tigers failed to convert and turned the ball over on downs at the 22-yard line. The Knights would capitalize with the field position and just a few plays later Sanogo burst through the Tigers line and scampered in for a 25-yard touchdown. The point-after attempt was good pushing the Knights lead to 14-7.

To start the second half the Knights didn’t take their foot off the gas pedal. On their second possession, Eric Willis hauled in a pass and just missed the end zone by one yard. But, it was no problem as the very next play Sanogo took it in for the touchdown. The point-after attempt was good, making the score 21-6 Knights.

Truman looked to respond but on the following possession Knights defensive back Anis Hunter intercepted Delp. The Knights would be faced with a fourth down on the possession but Willis took a fake down to the 19-yard line. The Tigers defense held and forced a turnover on downs a few plays later.

The Tigers would capitalize off the turnover and Delp nailed receiver Joey Wright from 16 yards out. The two-point conversion was no good making the score 21-12 Knights. Truman had another chance to shorten the Knights’ lead but once again the Knights got an interception.

Following the interception, the Knights pulled out a trick play and Willis hit Aadam Forbes for a 16-yard touchdown. The point-after attempt was no good making the score 27-12 Knights.

The Tiger would find the end zone just once more on the night. Delp hit Sincere Thomas for a huge 37-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good making the score 27-18 in which would be the final.

Looking ahead the Truman Tigers move on to face Norristown next Friday at 7 p.m. For the Academy Park Knights, they move on to face Interboro next Friday at 7 p.m.
