Friday 9/15:

Ben Franklin @ George Washington: The Electrons are improved from last year winning more total games (1) and scoring more points (44) than they did in 2022. Under new HC Aleem Medley a former BF football player they’ve been disciplined and motivated to be more competitive. Leading the team is Sr. RB Vernon Young who also doubles as an edge rusher. For the Eagles they’re currently 2-0 with wins over Frankford & Wood. Leading the Eagles are Freshman QB Logan Jerry who has passed for 321 yards & 5 TDs on the season while also rushing for 59 yards. The top pass receiver thus far has been Jr. WR Jaheim Bennett who has caught 6 passes for 138 yards & 3 TDs. Defensively the Eagles are stout and disciplined led by Sr. Quadir Carr who has 13 tackles along with Sr. Terrell Faris who has 8 tackles mixed in with 3 sacks.

Frankford @ Boys Latin: The Pioneers look to finish off their non-league schedule with a win over Boys Latin. The Pioneers are currently 1-2 with shut out losses to Washington (37-0) and Mastery North (13-0). Their lone win was over Olney in which they trounced them 40-0. Boys Latin after an opening week loss has won 2 straight including a gutsy 20-14 win over neighborhood rival West Philadelphia. Boys Latin will rely heavily on Semaj Carmichael offensively to keep their offense rolling.

Archbishop Ryan @ Conwell Egan: The Raiders are winless on the season heading on the road to an 1-1 Egan team. This will be the opening CL Blue Division game for both squads and a win for either team helps them in their bid to secure a playoff berth.

Kipp Dubois @ Vaux Big Picture: In a matchup of two Public League small schools both Vaux and Kipp have a win on the season, and both have lost to Overbrook by 6 points. This looks to be a game of strong defense and low scoring.

South Philadelphia @ Northeast: The Vikings started the season slow on offense but last week had a breakout performance against Wood scoring 35 points. Next up for Northeast is a final non-conference game against the Southern Rams who are 1-0 but have been idle for almost 3 weeks. The Rams won their opener over Academy of Palumbo back on 8/25 in a 20-0 shutout.

St. Joe’s Prep @ Don Bosco Prep: The Hawks will conclude their non-league schedule with a tilt with one of NJ’s best teams in Don Bosco. The Hawks have a handful of D1 committed players on offense that are seniors and battle tested to go along with very talented underclassmen with significant offers already. Don Bosco sits with a 1-2 record but will be highly motivated to play spoiler over a nationally ranked SJP team.

West Catholic @ Cardinal O’Hara: A matchup of two talented, young & inexperienced teams in a Catholic League Blue Divisional game. The Burrs under 1st year HC Don Richardson struggled offensively in week 1 against a strong defensive Northeast team but in week 2 they put up 57 points against a talented and strong Steelton -Highspire team in a 73-57 defeat. O’Hara has put together an 2-1 start to the season with a 50-6 setback to Springfield before stringing together consecutive wins over Wayne Hills (NJ) & Belmont Charter. The Burrs Sr. DE Jayzen Flint (Boston College) will find a good matchup in O’Hara’s stud Jr. OT Nate Kutufaris.

Bonner-Prendie @ Archbishop Carroll: The Friars were defeated handedly by Salesianum HS (DE) last weekend after an impressive week 1 win overseas. They’ll look to get back in the winning column against divisional opponent Carroll who picked up a quality win last week over Simon Gratz. On paper the friars look to have more talent, depth and experience but this Carroll team is scrappy and looking for a statement win in the CL Blue Division.

Malvern Prep @ Imhotep: The matchup of the weekend involves the Public League best team hosting the Inter-Ac’s best team. The Panthers are 3-0 with a great comeback win last weekend over a strong Archbishop Spalding (MD) team. They also have wins over a team from Virginia & Haverford School. Offensively they spread the ball around quite evenly to the receivers while splitting carries between Georgia commit Jr. Jabree Wallace-Coleman & So. Syeer Coleman. Malvern Prep enters this contest 2-0 with wins over La Salle & Delbarton (NJ). MP has had much closer contests with their opponents than Tep thus far this season.

Roman Catholic @ Dematha Catholic: Another premier contest between one of the better teams in the area against a nationally known program in Dematha. Roman has found success this year through the air with the growth and progress of So. QB Semaj Beals who has thrown for 575 yards & 9 scores this season. So. WR Ashdan Roberts leads the team in receiving yards & receiving TDs with 197 yards & 3 TDs. Defensively the Cahillites are led by LB Luke Van Brill who has 17 tackles, an interception & 1 fumble recovered for a 60-yard TD. The defense also gets high production from edge rushers Lazaryus Toombs (4.5 sacks) and Mykell Ford (5 sacks).

Saturday 9/16

Father Judge @ Pope John Paul III: The Crusaders look to fine tune their game in a final non-conference game against Pope John Paul III. Judge in their two losses played tough District 1 programs and held their own in defeat. They’ve averaged over 35 points in the last two games and should be able to put points up against a talented PJP III team that’s currently 3-0.

School of the Future @ Kensington: Both programs have yet to earn a win in 2023 and fortunately this game will give one team their first victory of the young season. Kensington has more depth & big game experience which should translate to success moving the ball and coming up with key stops defensively. School of the Future Firebirds are a scrappy team that won’t just lay down though.

Central @ MLK: Both programs are quite familiar with one another and are coached and led by alums of the programs. MLK’s offense is ran through and with RB Shamir Norton who has been a man on a mission. Look for a heavy dosage of him against a gritty Central team looking for their first win of the season.

Mastery North @ Belmont: This game should be entertaining and hard hitting as they both feature physical defenses and great skill position players on offense. North has had the tougher non-league schedule, but Belmont was tested last year and gave bigger schools all they could handle in the Pub.

Lansdale Catholic @NG: The Crusaders will be heading into South Philly looking to make a statement on how the CL Blue Division will unfold this season. They’re currently 2-1 while NG sits at 1-1. LC can be deceiving when looking at stats and numbers as nobody sticks out, but they are a very solid good team that utilizes many players. NG has more star power and household along with a legendary HC in Albie Crosby and will be ready to show the CL and city they’re a top team in the area and state.
