District 12 Week 5 Preview

| September 28, 2023

We are currently in week 5 of the 2023 season here in District 12. Many teams took advantage of scheduling a week 0 game, so they have 5 games played while a few choose to schedule an extra scrimmage. Due to inclement weather and team player shortages, we have a handful of teams who’ve only played 2-3 games. Most teams are currently entering league play this week and there are quite a few interesting matchups on the schedule for this weekend. Without further delay let’s dig into the games of interest.

Best of the Best

La Salle @ Calvert Hall (MD): The Explorers will finish their non-league schedule with a game against traditionally good Cardinals team. La Salle led by So. QB Gavin Sidwar (1048 yards & 9 TD passes). Stevie Davis & Julian McFadden both lead the team with 4 overall touchdowns each. Julian is averaging over 100 yards receiving per game this season. Calvert has struggled offensively this year while La Salle has excelled in keeping opponents out of the endzone for the most part outside of their loss at Bishop McDevitt.

Boys Latin @ MLK: A huge Liberty Divisional game pits the Warriors against the Cougars. Both teams rely heavily on the ground and pound attack to get the victories so the key will be which offensive line can dominate and control the line of scrimmage. This matchup pits two of the best RBs in the city as Boys Latin has Semaj Carmichael as their star back while King uses both QB Isaiah Robinson & RB Shamir Norton to move the chains and dominate time of possession. Both teams are coached very well and are disciplined so the team that wins the turnover battle will come out victorious.

Lansdale @ Archbishop Carroll: The Crusaders and Patriots both fell in their opening CL Blue Division games last week and need a win for positioning themselves to get a CL Blue playoff berth next month. Lansdale has a very balanced offense led by RB Jacahi Streeter (410 yards 1 TD) and QB Cole Meehan (589 yards 9 TDs). Cole’s favorite targets are Yeboa Cobbold (2 TDs) and James Webb (2 TDs). For the Patriots they are still trying to find their groove offensively and identity as they are still young and fairly inexperienced. One plus for the Patriots is their defense has been able to force a few turnovers.

Imhotep @ John Bartram: The Panthers haven’t lost to a PL opponent since October 2019 when they fell at Northeast 8-6. They enter battle tested and 1-0 within the division after a good 26-14 win over Lincoln last week. Led by Georgia commit Jr. RB Jabree Coleman, Army commit Sr. QB Mikal Davis, Pitt commit Sr. DL Jahsear Whittington, Jr. DL Zahir Mathis, PSU commits Sr. WR Tyseer Denmark and Sr. CB Ken Woseley the Panthers are a physical, passionate & tough squad. Bartram won’t be intimated as they enter the contest 4-0 and high on confidence as they’ve recorded shutout wins in 3 of their 4 games. Their leaders are Sr. Jah-mi Hargrove, Rahmear Owens, Haleem Butler and Leonard Herrington.
